Sellers description:
This lovely example of an original RHD series 1 E-type is finished in Hawthorn Green which is complimented with a black interior and buff cloth hood. To be sold with expired Victorian registration and excluding personal XKE 62 Number Plates

This April 1962 build E type Roadster carries the Serial Number 850453, and predates the change to the front floor to include heel wells. ( June 1962) Originally a flat floor variant, it has been fitted with heel wells and the period workmanship indicates that this was most probably undertaken by the dealer very early in the car's life.

3.8 Litre DOHC with triple 2ā€¯carburettors
Original Moss 4 speed gearbox
Full mechanical restoration and overhaul
Bare metal body restoration
Receipts for restoration
Photos of restoration progress
Modifications are restricted to an upgrade to an alternator and a stainless steel radiator expansion tank
A full compliment of 3.8 E Type Service Manuals and restoration books are included.

This is one of the most original 3.8 Type series one available, in outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition, but never the less a thoroughly usable classic.

The vehicle is currently in storage in a Classic Car centre and inspection is available by appointment.

Please note chassis 850453 has recently resurfaced-it is an English 1 owner car registered 1.5.1962 originally coloured blue/red.I have the Heritage Certificate to prove. The car listed here (in Australia) must therefore be a hybrid.

Further to my comments listed on 3/6/'10 - 850453 is undergoing full restoration by a highly regarded expert in England, this will be finished in 2011.The car carries it's original registration number 207 DYT and matching numbers it left the factory with (confirmed on the Heritage Certificate).

I owned this vehicle for a short time before the restoration and it is a clone . It is a chopped down coupe probably imported from USA. I didn't know it at the time I owned it.

Sold by Henderson Fellowes of London in February 2021. Amended seller's description below.

www.henderson-fellowes.com/1962-jaguar-e-type/

  • An early matching numbers Series 1 Roadster
  • Fastidiously restored by marque experts in 2012
  • Supplied with rare factory hard top roof
  • Enhanced for modern day use with subtle and reversible upgrades
  • Offered on behalf of 3rd owner with less that 1000 miles covered since restoration

Dispatched from Jaguar's Coventry factory in April 1962, this early Series 1 E Type, chassis 850453 was UK registered 207DYT and sold via Henlys London to its first owner, Michael Walsh on 1st May 1962. Remarkably, 207DYT would remain in the ownership of the Walsh family until 2010, when having covered 78,000 miles, it was purchased by marque specialist Jim Rothwell from Cornwall. Rothwell, a highly respected aficianado, personally restored and has overseen some of the finest E Type restorations and embarked on a concours restoration of 207DYT.

Rothwell carried out a bare metal, rotisserie style restoration which was completed regardless of time and expense. During this 2 year period, the body was stripped and refinished in Opalescent Dark Green, whilst the interior was re-trimmed in Suede Green. All mechanical parts were overhauled including a complete rebuild of the original matching numbers engine by VSE to fast road specification, whilst the suspension, brakes, steering, cooling system and electrics were thoroughly overhauled.

The decision to enhanced the E Type included the installation of an E type Fabs 5 speed gearbox. It is interchangable with the original Moss gearbox, which was also rebuilt and accompanies the car. It was also fitted with a larger starter motor, large bore tubular manifold and stainless steel exhaust system, upgraded front brakes with Coopercraft calipers, and new stainless steel wire wheels. This world class restoration is documented with a photo library and 10 page dossier of works.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
