Well here it is... some say the Definitive E Type.... Its my 1962 Carmen Red 'Flat Floor' E Type Roadster. This is not easy...! I have owned this car for 37 years and thought I'd never sell it... but things change since 1972 when I bought it, but be quick, I might change my mind...!!
When I bought it at 10 years old it was in a poor state, I set about restoring it over a four year period. Everything was completely stripped or taken apart, all worn parts were replaced, the body was re-painted, the seats re-upholstered, engine, box, axle, overhauled. The brakes, suspension, steering all completely restored/replaced. New chrome wire wheels, new exhaust system, nothing was overlooked.
Later a brass header tank and Stainless exhaust system were added.
Last year the carbon clutch release bearing failed, so whilst the engine was out a complete new clutch assembly was fitted, the gear box was overhauled (I chipped a tooth on 1st gear showing off 15 years earlier!), and the brake system overhauled.
The car has had very little use over the years, a few hundred per year, less lately. It does not go out in the wet. It has only been caught in a shower twice.
It was never a concors car, but it was done to a good standard for 1972. It has stood the passage of time better than its owner! It now has blemishes (see close up of boot lid) and the photos probably flatter it, but its in good usable condition. To my knowledge it has no major faults. Its chassis number 850308, making it the 308th car off the production line, hence the flat floor, and an original right hand drive, 1sr registered Jan '62.
So check out the pics' and ask yourself.... 'Do I want to own a 150 mph, 0-60 in 6.9 secs, 265 bhp piece of 60's artwork...?'
