This car is well known to me , it appears in The Late , and much missed Denis Jenkinsons E. type Book , ( P.65 ) , it is Dark Blue , Red trim , still with a Moss box , owned by a friend , its in superb condition , sadly seldom used , Dispatched , 14th July 1961 , to Henlys London , who then moved it on to Mann Egerton of Norwich , who supplied it to a local Customer . I am currently researching this vehicles history , watch this space !

850045, registered 8686 VF, was one of the first batch of roadsters dispatched to UK dealers on the 14th of July 1961 and photographed outside the Brown Lane factory reception. Originally the Mann Egerton demonstrator in Norwich. Car also appears in the Jaguar Driver magazine classified section in March 1980. '1961 E-Type roadster chassis 850045. A unique opportunity for a Jaguar enthusiast or collector to acquire an early 'E' in very good condition. Finished in black with red interior, mileage 40,000, present owner has covered 8,000 miles in 8 years. A reluctant sale due to small children and (sorry) the love of Aston Martins. Asking price £8,500. Tel Mayfield (E.Sussex) 2305.'

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
