Letter From Jaguar Describing Equipment
Private Party or Dealer: Dealer
This 1971 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster previously resided in Connecticut and was with the previous owner from 1986 through acquisition by the selling dealer in 2019. A refurbishment of the car began in early 1987 and was completed in stages over the coming years. Power is provided by a 4.2-liter inline-six with dual carburetors, which is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in white with a blue convertible top and blue leather upholstery. This XKE is offered by the selling dealer with records since 1986, a letter from Jaguar delineating the original configuration, and a clean Connecticut title.
Originally Primrose yellow with a black convertible top, the car was reportedly repainted in silver, then red before being repainted in its present white with a blue convertible top in 1991. The car retains factory lighting, including taillamps and turn signals mounted under the chrome bumpers, and a set of US-market side markers. A luggage rack has been fitted to the rear decklid, and the rear of the car and inside of the trunk were refinished in 2000-2001.
Some of the weatherstripping was reportedly replaced in recent years. The seller states that one of the chrome wire-spoked wheels was replaced in 2016. The car retains US-market wheel lock nuts, and the fitted red-line tires show 1995 date codes.
Originally black, the cabin has been reupholstered in blue leather with matching carpets contrasted by a black dash and instrument panel fascia. A Blaupunkt radio is installed in the factory location, and the car retains factory rocker switches. The wood-rimmed steering wheel features a Jaguar center cap, and the wooden shift knob bears the Jaguar logo.
Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, with an analog clock and a quartet of auxiliary gauges mounted centrally on the dash. Approximately 46k miles are shown on the 5-digit mechanical odometer.
The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and was factory-rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. Induction is handled by a pair of Stromberg carburetors with a factory air cleaner housing. The seller notes an oil leak, and states that the clutch, blower fan, fuse block, and other components have been replaced.
The seller reports that records are available from 1987 through 2016, and books include an upholstery guide, a parts catalog, and a compendium from Robert Bentley publishing containing the owner’s manual, service manual, and a tuning guide.
