Auction description:
Sports & Classics of Monterey
Thursday, August 13, 2009 - Saturday, August 15, 2009
1971 Jaguar E-Type Series II 4.2 Roadster
LOT: 506
Estimate:
$75,000-$100,000 US
Chassis No. 2R14508
Offered Without Reserve
AUCTION RESULTS: Lot was Sold at a price of $57,750

This original, 1971 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series II Roadster is a superb driver. The vendor purchased the car from an individual who had owned it for 25 years. During this time it was maintained very well and carefully sorted. The Jaguar maintains its original color combination and original black leather interior. It is fitted with new Michelin redline tires and was recently serviced. The odometer currently reads just over 72,500 miles, which, given the car’s current condition, may very well be accurate and original mileage.

Representing the last of the Series II, this example is an early 1971 model that features the beloved 4.2 liter inline six cylinder engine. Many E-Type enthusiasts prefer this engine to the V12 of the Series III cars because it weighed considerably less and as a result, the Series II cars are far more nimble and compelling to drive.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
