This 1971 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was refinished in Signal Red under prior ownership, and it was purchased by the owner in 2021. Subsequent work has included reupholstering the seats in black leather, installing a replacement black soft top, and replacing the brake master cylinder, engine mounts, and exhaust mounts. Power is provided by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, and additional equipment includes a black top boot, a black tonneau cover, an Alpine cassette stereo, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This XKE roadster is now offered on dealer consignment in Pennsylvania with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Maryland title.

The car was refinished in its factory Signal Red approximately two decades ago, and the seller notes the floors have been repaired. Exterior equipment includes a replacement black soft top, sealed-beam open headlights, a driver-side mirror, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets. A black tonneau cover will accompany the car and is pictured in the gallery below. Scratches and discoloration are noted on the front bumper.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Bridgestone Ecopia tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the brake master cylinder was replaced in preparation for the sale. The selling dealer notes the rear brake calipers and parking brake system will require service.

The cabin features bucket seats that were reportedly recently reupholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include an Alpine cassette radio, a locking glovebox, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, and an analog clock is mounted in the center of the dash along with gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 29k miles, approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 245 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine mounts and exhaust mounts were replaced and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a manufacture date in August 1970.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
