Opening bid $36,000 reserve not met no bids yet 9 days left in auction. Buy it now price $59,000. Car now said to be in Hampton Bays, New York.

Sellers description:
This 1971 XKE has a 6 cylinder 4.2 engine with a manual transmition. I have the original bill of sale It was purchased as a used car on April 29, 1971 from British Leyland Motors Inc in Leonia NJ. It musr have been a demo car for a short time at the dealership. It has ben owned by the same buyer for 40 years The car has been kept in original condition and looks to be the original paint. I purchased the car from the estate and offering it for sale. The car is a great driver and shows very well. The car has some chips in the paint in the pannels under the doors probably caused by pebbles kicking up. . They are not visible unless you look under the car. The rubber seals between the fenders and the bumper is original and somewhat dried out. The interior is in great condition . The only thing that could be replaced is the headrests they show some ware. The top is original and looks brand new.The rear window on the convertable top is clowdy. It has the top cover and the drivers interior cover. It has the original Jack Knock off Wrench and hammer for the wheel removal . The spare has a wire wheel rim just the same as the ones on the car with a new spare tire. The wire wheels show some signs of age ,they look good but could be recromed if you want them perfect. All the rest of the crome is in excelent condition. The windshiels las a little defect in the top corner on the drivers side. I have the Looseleaf Jaguar Service Manual the original Lube Charts and other repair and service manuals. I have the original Stromberg carbs with Manifold, Air filter, Crossover pipe and Heat shield. The car is a beauty I would love to keep it but I have no place to keep it.

Auction description:
29 Apr 2013 14:00 BST Hendon, RAF Museum
Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia
LOT 351
1971 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2-Litre Roadster

Registration no. MRD 895J
Chassis no. 2R13621
Engine no. to be advised
Estimate:
£50,000 - 55,000
€59,000 - 65,000
US$ 76,000 - 84,000

This left-hand drive E-Type roadster served as a demonstrator at British Leyland Motors of Leonia, New Jersey and comes with its original bill of sale. The car was purchased from the original owner, who had used it very little during his ownership, and imported into the UK in 2012. It comes with the original owner's letter and stamped Jaguar Service Record verifying the recorded mileage of only 35,000. Re-sprayed in the 1990s, the car still presents well today and drives superbly. Finished in Primrose Yellow with black leather interior, the latter showing wear commensurate with age and mileage, this very well preserved and highly original E-Type roadster is offered with the aforementioned documentation, current road fund licence, MoT to February 2014 and Swansea V5, and comes complete with owner's manual, lubrication charts, tools and jack.

Car now offered at:

Sellers description:
1971 Jaguar E Type 4.2 Litre Roadster Left Hand Drive, LHD.

Chassis number 2R/13621
Registration number: MRD895J

A beautifully preserved original car in primrose yellow, having covered just 35K miles from new. Originally supplied to its first owner in New Jersey, he kept the car until very recently. The mileage is warranted & backed up by a stamped Jaguar service history book & assorted correspondence from the original owner along with the original bill of sale. The only real deviation from total originality is a respray which was undertaken about 20 years ago & has now mellowed to give an original feel to the car.

The interior is Black leather in lovely order commensurate with the very low mileage. The can comes with the original owners manual, tools, Jack & lubrication charts. The car starts readily & drives absolutely as a low mileage E type should. The performance is brisk & the gear changes from the manual box smooth & precise. The triple carbs make all the right noises giving the car a very sporty feel.

Original low mileage examples like this are becoming difficult to find.

Car now offered at:

Seller's description:

1971 E Type Jaguar series 2 1/2 OTS Convertible Left Hand Drive

Chassis no: 2R13621

Registration: MRD895J

Price: £98,000

A matching numbers car.

A very unusual "Last of Production" car. In 1971 the V12 E type was about to be launched. Brochures were rpinited & publicity started by North American dealers early in 1971 but cars were not to appear until several months later. With the dealers screaming for cars a final production run of 9 series 2 E types were made by Jaguars Special Vehicles Department designated to sit in North American dealership windows until the V12's finally started arriving.

Uniquely these 9 cars were fitted with the 4 tail pipe exhaust system about to appear on the new V12's and also the Jaguar Badge to the sides of the bonnet as found on the V12's. These 9 cars were equipped with the triple carb set up which when combined with the freer flowing exhaust makes this one of the fastest standard E types I have ever driven. This is believed to be the only survivor of the 9 last cars produced. Out of the nine cars three were produced with clip on tonneau covers from the factory. When researching this car with Jaguar historians they were utterly amazed to learn not only of the cars existance but also that one of the three factory clip on tonneau covers had survived in virtually perfect condition. The original hood cover also comes with the car. The car will be featuring in a forthcoming book on the marque.

2R13621 was invoiced by British Leyland Motors Inc of New York on 29th April 1971 to one John Siegmund of New York. He purchased the car as a weekend car & took it with him to Jupiter Island Florida where it remained with him for over 40 years. During this time he put a mere 35,000 miles on the car which was of course always garage kept. In 2012 it came over to the UK & was UK registered. Since then the elderly, almost octogenarian owner who is now selling the car due to serious health issues increased the mileage total to 41,701 miles at time of photography. The mileage is verified by a stamped Jaguar service record & bills from the current ownership.

Changes to US safety and emissions legislation prompted the revised Series 2 of 1968. The headlight fairings were deleted and enlarged side and rear lights adopted, while a thickened front bumper centre section bridged a larger radiator intake. Interior changes included a collapsible steering column, and rocker switches in place of the earlier toggles.

Aside from a respray in the late 1990s to a very high standard the car is extremely original & well preserved being totally rot free underneath. To drive it is to appreciate how good a properly set up original E type can be. The engine starts instantly & is utterly crisp in a way you only find in Jaguar Twin Cam units. It is as mentioned before an extremely fast car outperforming all other E types I have driven.

The car wants for nothing & is in simply wonderful original condition & ready to be extensively driven.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
