A stylish example of the Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 2+2 FHC, which has been refurbished and dry-stored by its long-term owner.
Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 5.3-litre V12, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
Having been delivered to the USA with an automatic transmission in April 1973 via Leyland Motor Sales and Whitehouse Imported Motors of New Jersey, it was subsequently imported to the UK, converted to right-hand drive and re-registered with the DVLA in November 1991.
Between 1989 and 1991 the car underwent a professional bare metal restoration, including a full engine reconditioning by TT Race and Rally in Tamworth.
For 26 years, it has been owned and maintained by a retired Aeronautical Engineer, who dry-stored it in a Carcoon until around three years ago.
In 2005, the seller commissioned a manual gearbox conversion with Moorcroft Cars, using a rebuilt E-Type four-speed transmission. The final drive was overhauled, and the ratios corrected.
It has reportedly not been driven in the rain during the seller’s ownership.
The odometer indicates 47,049 miles, though this is not warranted.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This Series 3 E-Type is finished in light blue, over a dark blue leather-trimmed interior with matching carpets and door card inserts.
It rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels, shod with Pace PC20 tyres.
Inside, the cabin is equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel, Smiths dials, manually operated windows and a Panasonic cassette stereo.
The eye-catching Jaguar V12 ‘fishtail’ quad-exit exhaust is present.
Accompanying the vehicle will be its original British Leyland sales documentation, owner’s manuals and service book, a collection of maintenance and restoration receipts, all MOT test certificates since 2005, a bronze wheel spinner and mallet, a scissor jack, a Jaguar toolkit and various spare parts, including an oil filter, distributor cap, rotor arm, temperature sender, and fluids.
CONDITION
Its light blue paintwork is reported to be in excellent condition, having been resprayed as part of the restoration.
Inside, the headlining is slightly loose at the front, the sun visors are beginning to sag when lowered, there are signs of use on some of the major touchpoints, creasing on the driver’s seat, marks on the driver’s door card, and minor wear to the retrimmed carpet on the side sill coverings, though the cabin presents well overall.
The interior clock is reported to lose time, though the seller is not aware of any further electrical or mechanic faults.
The most recent MOT test was on 17 March 2023 at 47,037 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.
SERVICE HISTORY
The car was prepared for sale in March 2023, comprising fuel, fuel filter, engine oil, oil filter, coolant, spark plugs, clutch fluid, clutch slave cylinder, brake fluid, and master cylinder float switch replacements.
In 2020, the engine oil and oil filter were changed, and the distributor cap and rotor arm were replaced.
Prior to this, the engine oil, oil filter, and coolant were changed in 2017.
The battery has recently been replaced, and the fuel pump has been overhauled at both ends.
Over the last 16 years, the brake servo, brake master cylinder, and wheel bearings have been replaced by Moorcroft Cars, while the rear radius arms and mounts have been replaced by Jaguar.
A new vacuum unit, PerTronix electronic ignition system and Flame-Thrower coils have been fitted.
Technicians at Moorcroft Cars have previously rebuilt the manual gearbox, differential, and power steering pump, and also fitted a new radiator core.
The Stromberg carburettors have been rebuilt by Gower & Lee.
