    In the late eighties/early nineties one could pay over £100,000 for a V12 E-Type roadster. In 1990 a stunning Series Three roadster made over £101,000 at auction, a genuine Lightweight made £1,075,000, while average everyday cars were making £50,000 to £70,000. It is under these circumstances that companies offered roadster conversions of the coupe chassis for £50,000 plus.

    The car presented here is one such vehicle. It is offered complete with the original contract with Country Classic Cars Ltd of Southam, Warwickshire, which is dated 13th October 1989 plus copies of the invoices and the copies of the cheques paying the invoices amounting to £55,000+ over the next 12 months.

    The build specification includes conversion into roadster using a rust free bodyshell, conversion from automatic to manual with a Getrag 5 speed gearbox, bell housing and clutch assembly, complete re-wire, all new suspension, new trim, new chromework, including chrome wire wheels and new, uprated braking system. The end result was a new E-Type roadster, which has better handling, more power, better brakes and better, higher geared, motorway performance than the original car.

    To recreate this car today one would probably be looking at a cost exceeding £200,000. But of course, such a venture would be uneconomic in the current market, where one can buy a mint factory car for £40,000 to £50,000 or this example for a fraction of its build price and less than half the price of a standard roadster.

    If you want the traditional looks of a Series Three E-Type roadster but you also want bit more of a drivers car, this E-Type is the car for you. The original build process was bespoke, not mass produced. The modifications are sensible, making the car more driveable and long legged and the price is most attractive, when you consider what you are getting for your money.

    A beautifully restored Series 3 E Type.
    * US import. Converted from Coupe to Roadster, LHD to RHD, Auto to Manual.

    History: Very good nice 1989 restoration. Restoration 1989 - 1990 rust free body shell, rustproofed and painted. New 5 speed Getrag gearbox. New 5.3 engine. Totally rebuilt suspension, totally re-wired. Totally re-trimmed to customers specification. New chrome and exterior body fittings.

    New chrome wire wheels, hubs, spinners and tyres. Modern Panasonic stereo radio cassette. New speedometer fitted in 1990 and according to a letter on file the mileage in 2004 was 12,440 miles since 1990, it currently reads 16,799 miles the car featured in the film RPM in 1988.
