This 1972 Jaguar XKE 2+2 was ordered new by its original owner, who picked it up at the Jaguar factory in 1971 and toured through Europe before shipping it to Canada. The seller's son acquired the car in 1990 and began a restoration that was never completed. The numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 and 4-speed manual gearbox were both rebuilt in 1990, and rust in the rear wheel arches was cut out but not replaced. The car remains largely in the same condition as it was left by the original owner's son in 1991. The seller recently purchased this XKE and is now offering it with the original owner's handwritten mileage log, delivery paperwork, and a clean Alberta registration.

Per the attached invoice, this Jaguar was originally finished in Ascot Fawn over Beige, though none of the original exterior color remains. The original owner's son stripped and primed the car in 1990, and began rust repair in the rear. The project stalled in 1991, and the car was stored in a multi-car garage until acquired by the seller last month. The wire wheels are said to have been restored and re-chromed, though they appear dusty. All of the glass is said to be in good condition, and a still-boxed NOS windshield is included. The chrome trim is included and in need of polishing. The seller notes a small dent in the rear bumper.

Patch panels are included for the cut away rear wheel arches. The seller states that some additional rust repair should be undertaken in this area before the panels are welded in.

The interior has been partially removed, but the dash, instruments, radio, and center console are all still in place. There is an unknown black compound in the passenger's and cargo area floor, and the seller believes it may be covering some floor perforation. 72,428 miles are shown on the odometer, and the number is backed up by the original owner's hand-written mileage log.

The seats and rear interior panels are included with the sale as shown above.

The engine is removed and is included on a wheeled cart with the sale. As the steering is still connected and the parking brake is working, the car is said to be easy to move and load for shipping.

The original 5.3L V12 is included and was rebuilt by a local engine ship in 1990 but has been stored without lubrication. Not often seen on V12-powered cars, the original 4-speed manual gearbox was rebuilt by a mechanic from a Jaguar dealership at the same time.

The engine stamping reads 7S3143SA and matches the number on the original delivery order, which also gives the chassis number.

The original invoice from British Leyland for Overseas Delivery is included. The only optional extras on the car were wire wheels and air conditioning. Type-written notations mention the standard transmission and the left hand drive configuration, with the total amounting to $7,600 CAD. It was originally delivered in 1971, but came to Canada in 1972 and is registered with a 1972 year of make.

The original owner kept a mileage log, and a sampling is attached in the gallery along with the original manual. Based on the data in the log, the true mileage is 72k. In addition to the removed spares, the original tool kit is included and is 90% complete. Per the seller, cars made for export did not include the tool kit, but this one did as it was picked up at the factory.

The uninstalled mechanical and interior parts are included with the sale

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
