Current bid $7,600 reserve not met, 8 bids, 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
VIN/Chassis Number 1S-71341BW; Engine number 7S-2768SA; Body Number 4S051526; Gearbox 11296. Build Date 5/71

This car has been restored to it's original regency red, with a black interior - most regency red cars came with a Tan interior so this is a little unusual. It was originally sold in Wakesha, WI and found it's way to Florida many years ago. The previous owner bought the car in June of 87. He had a business rebuilding Jaguar engines and bought it to restore as his personal vehicle but had not been able to get it completed before his death. His wife kept the car for several years before deciding to sell it when she remarried.

I bought the car in June 1996. It ran well but needed painting and some reassembly. It came with a new factory bonnet (hood). This alone retailed at the time for $3k+, I expect it would be quite a bit more than that now! I decided to restore the car as a good driver. I had the remaining bodywork completed by a specialist in Melbourne so that it was strong and rust free. It was stripped to bare metal and repainted by an excellent restoration shop in Cocoa. I had it returned to it's original color, Regency red, including repainting the boot floor and interior. The paint shows very well and has an excellent shine. All the rubber seals were replaced with new.

When I got the car the odometer reading was certified at around 80k miles and I believe this to be accurate. The current title is odometer certification exempt. I've only put about a thousand miles on it in the last 10 years as other priorities have kept me from getting it finished. After moving 2 years ago and driving it to our new house I took it off the road to rebuild the carbs as it was running a little rich. I've only just completed this job now! I'd wanted an XKE since I was young and it's been a difficult decision to sell it but I've come to recognize that I'm not going to have time to spend on it any time soon.

There's really not that much to do and the reserve has been set to allow for the remaining items. The interior is overall in good shape but it needs driver's seat cover, center console cover and head restraint covers. Kits are readily available and I've seen them from $6-700. It has a new headliner. The carpets are OK but not great with some wear. The car picked up a dent in the right rear quarter while stored - see pictures. It didn't break the paint or even scratch it but it needs to be taken care of. I had planned on getting it fixed and having the tailgate repainted as there is also a small scratch from when the chrome trim was installed and some slight crazing at the bottom of the rubber seal. I was quoted approx $650 unseen. Mechanically, the carbs have been rebuilt but still need to be tuned, it runs and drives but could do with a tune up. I replaced the Opus ignition with a Crane optical unit which has been very reliable and accurate. It leaks a little transmission fluid, I think from the o-ring on the reverse switch which can be replaced with the transmission in place. The oil pressure light switch sticks, I've already cleaned it once but with the car sitting it's stuck again - oil pressure is good though and the gauge is more use anyway. It's a $5 part for a new one. Compression is good. AC works and blows cold. The radio is not hooked up. It's got 4 new tires and many new parts. Alternator squeaks a little from standing this last year but works well. It has a stainless exhaust installed.

The E type was purchased after a
number of years looking and the V12
series three was affordable and also
more comfortable for a big guy. :)
