Car was at auction in '07

Auction description:
An original right-hand drive Series 3 E-Type Jaguar, this particular example has been meticulously rebuilt and subsequently maintained to a high standard. The vehicle was purchased by the previous owner in 1997 and subjected to a comprehensive programme of refurbishment. Most of the work was completed by Gary Walker Jaguar in Milperra, New South Wales; after stripping the body back to bare metal it was then prepared in anti-rust primer, coated in body spray polyester primer, hand blocked and resprayed in final primer before being finished off in 2-pak baked enamel. All external fittings, including chrome trim, window surrounds, light assemblies etc., were replaced with new items. The interior was retrimmed in biscuit leather, along with brand new carpets, headlining, door trims and parcel shelves, using only original materials. The suspension was checked over and four new ball joints fitted, along with a front-end wheel alignment and the brake system completely overhauled with new disc rotors, pistons, seals and calipers. The engine and transmission were rebuilt, using reconditioned cylinder heads, rings, bearing, timing chain plus seals and gaskets while the radiator and hoses were replaced. A complete new exhaust system, including the manifolds, was fitted. Finally, the air conditioning system was overhauled with a new compressor, hoses and cooling fan. Indeed, virtually every component on the Jaguar was either replaced, renewed or rebuilt and it emerged from the workshop in absolutely sensational condition. After a lifelong affair with the E-Type, the current owner bought the car after extensive research and is regrettably offering it for sale due to work commitments. To be sold registered in New South Wales, the vehicle comes with a comprehensive history file documenting the restoration and all subsequent work carried out on the vehicle plus an alarm and trickle charger.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
