Car to be at auction 3/22

angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic/saturday-2nd-sunday-3rd-april/1972-jaguar-e-type ...

Auction description:

Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd April  »  1972 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 FHC 5.3 V12 Series III

Lot Number:

Estimate: £40,000 - 45,000

V5 Present

MoT Sep 2022

Chassis number: 1S50644

This Series III Jaguar E‑type, with very appropriate 'JAG' numberplate, was registered in August 1972. The vendor has owned it since 2018 and says it has only been used in summer and/or good weather since then. The car is described as driving very well and presents very well, inside and out.

The Jaguar is fitted with a five‑speed gearbox, although the original four‑speed transmission is supplied with the car. The vendor reports that the car has been well‑maintained. It also has a Webasto sunroof. Current mileage is 40,936 miles ‑ by reference to the paperwork, this is likely to be 140,936 miles.

The paperwork file is quite large and includes the V5C plus a hefty stack of invoices. These include an oil service and MoT in September 2021, new alloy header tank in July 2020 (£366.54) and a large selection of engine, cooling and brake parts in January 2020, costing £3617. Older bills date back to the 1980s., and show considerable expenditure over the years. There are also MoT certificates from 1986, 1987, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021 The current MoT is valid until September 2022.

In addition there are tax discs from 1998 to 2008, a document wallet with owner's manual and modern JVC CD/radio instructions, and a handwritten maintenance log running from July 1986 (61,776 miles) to September 2014 (132,860 miles). A photo album dating from the late 1980s and early 1990s shows quite extensive restoration work.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
