Auction description:

Lot No. 50

Registration Date 1971

Make & Model Jaguar E-Type S3 V12 Coupe

Colour Metallic British Racing Green

Registration Number JMA 932K

Chassis No. 1S50576

Engine size 5,343 cc

Engine No. 7S4276SA

Documents V5C; MOT July 2020 with no advisories; various old MOTs; restoration photos; Heritage Certificate; handbook etc

Estimate £55,000 - £60,000, not sold

As the Heritage Certificate confirms, this E-Type V12 manual was built in October 1971 and was supplied new via Ernest Hatfield of Sheffield to first owner Dr RM Kinsey of the same town. Finished in British Racing Green with a Cinnamon interior, it was first registered as MWJ 474K but became 111 ACG when it was acquired by another Sheffield man, Charles Gascoyne, in 2008 then 882 WKY in 2010 when it was acquired by a John North of Brigg becoming JMA 932K when our vendor acquired it in 2017.

When acquired the E-Type had been in dry storage for several years, had been colour-changed to red and was in need of renovation. Over the last two years it has been fully restored to the wonderful condition you see today, as documented in photos on file. The engine, running gear, glass and interior were all removed from the car and it was treated to a new bonnet and a bare metal repaint in eye-catching BRG metallic.

The engine was thoroughly overhauled and serviced, the entire braking system renewed and the suspension completely rebuilt with new springs and Boge shock absorbers. Much of the wiring was also replaced and the original interior was given a thorough clean. A new clutch was fitted along with a new set of Pirelli tyres and a new tail fan for the stainless steel exhaust. It is showing 52,000 miles on the clock which is almost certainly correct and is backed up by various old MOTs back to 1977 when it had covered 49,395 miles.

Now in sparkling condition throughout, it ran beautifully when we were treated to a test drive on the occasion of our visit with excellent oil pressure and an MOT to July 2020 with no advisories recorded. Due to be driven some 60 miles to the sale, this freshly rejuvenated E-Type looks a million dollars but could be yours for a fraction of that amount.

Lot #18727

trade Sale

Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

This E-Type Series 3 Fixed-Head Coupe is now finished in a handsome metallic version of the classic British Racing Green hue, over a Cinnamon leather-trimmed cabin.

It rides on a set of 15-inch silver-painted steel wheels with chrome Jaguar E-Type hub caps, wrapped in a matching set of Pirelli P4000 Super Touring tyres.

The specification includes a selection of Smiths gauges, a row of rocker switches for the major controls, and a period-correct radio.

As previously mentioned, the car’s colour is not original. It has also been fitted with new springs and Boge shock absorbers, a non-original gear knob, and a stainless-steel exhaust system.

The car will be supplied with a history file including a large selection of MOT certificates, parts invoices, the owner’s manuals and service booklet, and the Jaguar Heritage Production Record Trace Certificate, which confirms its original specification.

It was acquired by its last owner in 2017, and is now offered for sale via the trade.

During its time with its previous keeper, the car’s bodywork was stripped back to bare metal and refinished, the bonnet was replaced, the engine was overhauled, the brakes and suspension components were renewed, and much of the wiring was replaced.

The repainted British Racing Green metallic paintwork is described by the seller as being in generally good condition, but shows bubbling under the paint on the bonnet, scratches on the nearside rear wing behind the driver’s door and on the offside rear wing where the bumper meets the bodywork, cracking on the front top of the driver’s door, and cracking and marks around the lower passenger door. The seller also notes that there is corrosion on the headlight surrounds.
