This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was purchased new from Tom Sweeney Imported Cars of Cincinnati, Ohio, by its previous owner, who reportedly kept the vehicle in storage in her Cincinnati garage for much of her 41-year stewardship. The car was purchased by the seller from that original owner in 2015 and subsequently received a recommissioning that included seal work on the 5.3-liter V12, rebuilds of the quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, and a refresh of the power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Finished in Pale Primrose, the car also features a four-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, four-wheel independent suspension, power steering, 15” wire wheels, a black soft top, tan leather upholstery, and air conditioning. Now showing 2k miles, this Series III E-Type is offered with invoices from current ownership, an owner’s manual, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.
The body is finished in Pale Primrose with a black convertible top. Exterior features include chrome bumpers with rubber overriders, a forward-hinged louvered hood, a chin scoop, open headlights, side-marker lights, a driver-side mirror, and a rear-fender-mounted antenna.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by triple-lobed knock-offs and are wrapped in 215/70 Dunlop Elite Seventy whitewall tires that reportedly have not been replaced. Stopping is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units. The brake hoses were replaced in 2017. A brake refresh performed in August 2024 included replacement of the booster and master cylinders as well as bypassing of the warning actuator unit for pressure differential. Leakage from the rear calipers was noted at that time.
The cabin is trimmed in tan leather over bucket seats for two, with color-matched upholstery over the door panels and contrasting black dashboard trim. Additional features include tan carpeting, a wood shift knob, a lockable glovebox, and a push-button AM/FM radio. The air conditioning does not work, according to a December 2023 inspection report. The seller notes defects and scratches in the leather.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. Auxiliary instruments located in the center stack include a clock and gauges monitoring battery voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 2k miles, approximately 400 of which were added by the seller.
The 5.3-liter V12 breathes through quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. Service in 2017 included replacement of the cooling hoses and V-belts, and the coil, pickup coil, and starter relay were replaced in 2018. Work performed in August 2024 by Zakira’s Garage in Blue Ash, Ohio, included rebuilds of the carburetors and replacement of the front crankshaft seal, timing-cover seal, cam-carrier seals, valve-cover gaskets, and various other seals and gaskets.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via an all-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch cylinders were replaced in 2017. Independent suspension incorporates torsion bars up front and quad coil springs at the rear, and various bushings were noted to exhibit dry rot on a December 2023 inspection report. Areas of corrosion can be seen on various underside surfaces and components.
