Most probably the most readily recognisable of all classic sports cars and certainly the most likely to be at the top of any serious addict's wish list is the Jaguar E Type. When launched in 1961, the E Type not only looked sensational, it also out-performed virtually all of the far more pricey competition from both sides of the Atlantic.
Ten years and numerous improvements later, the Coventry firm shoehorned their soon to become equally legendary 5.3-litre 12-cylinder engine into the Series 3 E Type, which was thus transformed into a super-cool boulevard cruiser with turbine-like torque and huge reserves of horsepower. Apart from the silky-smooth V12, among other additions were power-assisted rack and pinion steering and servo-assisted brakes on all four wheels, all of which contributed to a more civilised driving experience for very Grand Touring.
The Series 3 Jaguar V12 roadster on offer - an original right-hand drive and never converted motor car - was sold seventeen years ago to Germany where, for sixteen of those years, it resided in a private collection. Never registered in Germany, with a said to be genuine total mileage of 58,000 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for the sale, the open bodywork and silver paintwork are said to be mint, whilst the V12 engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly both good. A timeless classic, which, according to the owner, is also perfect to drive.
