For sale at Le Riche Automobile Restorers of Trinity for £89,500. Amended seller's description below.
www.leriche.com/sales.php

Supplied by St Helier Garages to the first owner in August 1972, this low mileage S3 roadster with manual gearbox remained in his ownership until late 2014, by which time the car had covered only 48,738 miles. In 2015 after we had supplied the car to the second owner we were asked to recommission the car after a period of little use, and to refresh the paintwork as necessary. In the history file there is an invoice that details the work carried out and which has resulted in maintaining the originality of the car. Since being recommissioned the roadster has been kept in a private collection, maintained and run on a regular basis. In addition the engine bay has been detailed resulting in an outstanding example of a fully documented, original low mileage two owner RHD roadster, complete with its original radio and tool kit.

The whole bodywork is in excellent condition, with new chrome wheels and tyres, the original steel wheels and hub caps accompany the car. The black leather interior is in extremely good, original condition with some patination which adds to the charm of the car. The car has been mechanically checked through by our Jaguar trained technicians providing a car that is not only technically pleasing but also ready to use. In overall excellent condition, a low mileage, low ownership V12 roadster that has never been restored. The car has fully documented ownership from new, original buff log book, most recent registration documents, together with recent invoices for work carried out by ourselves in 2015 totalling nearly £16,000 in recommissioning works.

The E-Type was originally registered in August 1972 in Jersey, remaining on the island with its original owner until 2015. It was subsequently acquired by the seller and more recently repatriated to the UK, where it is now offered for sale. All import duties have been paid in the UK and it is now UK registered.

It was the subject of 216.5 hours of recommissioning and improvement work by classic car specialist Le Riche in 2015, totalling around £16,000. The car subsequently received an insurance valuation of £115,000, reflecting its impressive condition.

The Jaguar benefits from a recent specialist service and carburettor rebuild and an advisory-free MOT test pass.

The odometer shows 49,010 miles, which is understood to be the correct total.

It is available for viewing by appointment via Hilton & Moss, which is the Managed Partner assisting with the sale.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

The E-Type Series 3 V12 Roadster is finished in the timeless combination of Old English White with a black convertible roof, over a black leather-trimmed interior.

It rides on 15-inch chrome wire wheels with a matching spare, featuring chrome Jaguar-branded knock-off retainers, and fitted with Avon Turbospeed period-style tyres.

The specification includes Smiths gauges, a Kienzle analogue clock, a row of rocker switches for the major controls, heating and ventilation and a lockable glove box.

This example is fitted with a Blaupunkt Montreal radio cassette head unit.

The Jaguar is accompanied by its original 1972 registration card that features five stamps between 1972 and 1977, current V5C registration document, tool wraps, wooden knock-off protector and rubber mallet, paperwork supporting the 2015 sale via Le Riche, and supporting invoices for specialist servicing and maintenance from 2015, 2019 and 2024.

CONDITION

Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.

Specific notes from the seller include: there is a slight tear from the seatbelt on the base of the driver’s seat

The most recent MOT test was on 9 July 2024, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

Some recent work has been completed by Hilton & Moss ahead of the auction listing.

Prior to this, the last maintenance was a service and rebuild of the carburettors by specialist D Wood Motorsport in March 2024.,

There is an accompanying invoice which documents 9.5 hours of maintenance on the power steering system in 2019.

The Le Riche invoice from 2015 documents 216.5 hours of recommissioning work including the re-chroming of the bumpers and other brightwork, refinishing of the underside of the bonnet, rust blisters removed on nearside wing and replacement with new metal fabricated sections, sill repair areas repainted, engine tune and balancing of carburettors, gearbox and axle levels topped up, throttle pedal and linkages refreshed, air cleaner and brackets stripped and cleaned, paintwork machine polished, minor paint imperfections touched up, trim re-glued on dash console, hub conversion carried out to allow fitment of new wire wheels, fabrication of grille mounts and the application of leather treatment. The following new parts are also listed as having been fitted: hub seals, fuel pump, engine manifold studs, cylinder head nuts, cam cover bolts, rear gearbox mounting bush, gearbox oil seal, door top trims, left-hand door seals, wiper blades, bumper gaskets and over-rider stopper rubbers, quarter light window rubbers and power steering hoses.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
