 | I consider myself very lucky to be the owner of an amazing 1969 Jaguar E-Type Roadster. I've been a Jag fan all my life. My first car was a 1990 XJ-S Convertible, but never did I think I'd own an E-Type. I got mine for an amazing deal and took the plunge. Every time I see her, I know it was the right decision. This car has a very storied history. As told to me by the previous owner, he was the third owner. The car is originally from Hawaii, and was purchased new buy a somewhat sketchy individual. That person was put in jail a couple months later for 11 years and had the car in storage. Since it spent most of its early life undriven, it only has, at the time of this writing, 43,250 original miles.
After the original owner got out of prison, it was then sold to the commanding officer of a US Navy submarine there in Hawaii. He brought it back to the mainland, and had it for a few years until selling it to my friend in 1984. My friend was also a Naval officer, and had a very distinguished career serving as a commanding officer of a frigate, Cruiser, and the now decommissioned Presidential Yacht Sequoia. He remained very busy, and used the car very rarely, and it fell into disrepair. Before I purchased it, the last time it was ran was 2004.
When I saw it in his garage I knew it was the car for me. Even though the red paint was faded and cracked, the chrome dingy, and the car in non-running condition, I saw the potential. My friend knew I was young, and a college student (I go to the US Naval Academy, which is how we became friends) so he gave me a good deal. Have been having it restored for the past year, and had it shipped back to my home out in Texas when I was coming back for leave, so have finally been able to enjoy the fruits of my labor. It is an amazing car and am real honored to own it.

The color is not an original Jaguar red. Since I wasn't worried about taking it to shows and about complete originality, I had it painted Rosso Corsa (Ferrari Red). About a week before getting it painted Jaguar Carmen Red I saw a Ferrari, and said "That's it!" That was the best red I've ever seen, so I got the paint code (FER 322) and gave it to the paint shop. Haven't regretted it for a second. It works very well for the car.
