For sale at Silverstone classic auction July 2015
www.silverstoneauctions.com/1969-jaguar-e-type-42-series-ii-roadster

Registration: MCY 141G
Chassis Number: IR9273
Engine Number: 7R2374-9
Number of cylinders: 6
CC: 4200
Year of Manufacture: 1969
Estimate (£): 75,000 - 90,000

This particular series II E-Type Roadster 4.2 returned from the United States of America in 2006 and then went on to receive a nut and bolt restoration in 2011 by our vendor. During this comprehensive process, the car was swopped from left to right hand drive and the twin Stombergs changed to triple SU's to fully meet the original UK specification and power output.

The body was completely stripped and a new bonnet and all new panels, including the floor and boot floor were fitted. The engine was stripped and rebuilt, including the cylinder head and valves, the rear axle overhauled, all new shocks front and rear, new discs and calipers, all new brake pipes, a new fuel tank, and a stainless steel exhaust. 5 new chrome wire wheels, hubs and spinners were also fitted as were 5 new tyres. New front and rear chrome bumpers were attached, the car was re-trimmed with new seats, carpets and dashboard and a new hood finished everything off!

All relevant invoices are to be found in the history file and the car drives extremely well and feels very tight and together. A Jaguar Heritage certificate confirms that the chassis, engine, body and gearbox numbers all match from new and the car has covered just a handful of miles since restoration.

Seller's description:

1969 Jaguar E-Type

Price £85,000

Country United Kingdom Region Hertfordshire

Originally destined for American roads, this converted RHD roadster was first distributed by British Leyland, York in June 1969 and initially came to the market in Silver with a Red interior and a Grey hood. To date, and to our knowledge, it has had 3 previous owners which are well documented in an extensive paper trail that comes with the car. Its tonneau cover for the hood will also be supplied to the new owner.

In 2010, the Series 2 underwent a complete restoration and was transformed in to Opalescent Silver Blue with a Black interior. The rejuvenation included a new bonnet, and body panels comprising of a reinforced floor pan and boot floor. Areas of reliability were also addressed with new shock absorbers, brake components, calipers, and pipes which were all replaced with new. The exhaust was also replaced with a complete stainless steel system, along with a set of 5 wire wheels and tyres. Brightwork was finally replaced with all new bumpers and rubbers.

We move forward to 2015 where the car was for sale through Silverstone Auctions and the current owner acquired "Macy". She then came straight to us to have a variety of minor and major works carried out including an engine overhaul with trusted specialists, a 5-speed E-Type Fabs gearbox fitted, and a new hood. Once we had base-lined the car for reliability and long-distance touring, Macy was taken to drier conditions on the Southern coast of Spain where she resided, and was regularly serviced, until she was driven back in early 2023. Since her return, she has been MOT'd up until March 2024, and has been prepared for sale with a thorough carb tune included in the list of works.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
