    Sellers description:
I have only owned it two years (thought it would be a lot longer) and now the $$$ requirements related to the growth of my business require its liquidation. I am a dealer in old and rare books and I am just completing a year long renovation of a 200+ year old stone bankbarn on my property. It will house my new store, "Canaday's Book Barn". Of course these projects always take longer and cost more than expected. The first "Cat" to the sacrificial alter was my 1960 Jaguar MK IX, which was sold at the onset of the project. Now my XKE will go. But don't despair, I still have a gorgeous 1978 XJ-6L that appears as if it was just delivered from Coventry (but is still no "E"). I will buy another one after I sell enough books :-)

The car you see here is a beautiful 1969 series 2 roadster. Red with tan leather interior, and tan soft top. Stunning color combination! And much cooler than the black interior. It has the 4.2 liter engine, full synchro manual 4-speed gearbox and wire wheels. The series 2 XKE's are probably the best driving cars of all three series. They have the classic lines of the original XKE but with improved brakes, radiator cooling and seats.

The car is in terrific condition. It is a stunning driver that was restored about 15 years ago. The high quality paint appears much newer (most likely because the previous owner rarely used the car and stored it properly) and it has good panal fit. It is a very tight car that runs very well with very good oil pressure and no smoke. The car shifts crisply. I had the car completely sorted-out by the local British Car Garage here in the Harrisburg, Pa. Metro Area when I purchased it. It had been very infrequently used for years and required attention to brakes, carbs, rubber items, engine mounts, etc. in order to give me the level of confidence I desired. Unfortunatly, I have put less than 1000 miles on it during my ownership. The tan leather interior is in excellent condition (w/ exception noted below) as is the tan soft top. Chrome is also very good with very good wire wheels and Michelin Redline tires. Overall a very solid and sharp looking car.

    The following items are gripes:
    - Interior lights not working (i.e map, one behind seats); Most likely bulbs or fuse.
    - Scratch on left side just ahead of door (you can see in pics) About 3/4 Inch Long. I did this recently. Caused by door. Door arm needs adjusted (screw setting) to stop door from travelling to far.
    - Odometer not functional. Reading 64,3??. Was this way when I purchased the car. Speedometer works fine. Mechanic looked at it and said I would have to send guage away to have it rebuilt. I purchased the car on the strength of the engine and oil pressure. Previous Owner stated it had only been disfunctional for a couple thousand miles (an old oil change sticker on door jam appears to back this statement up, as it reads 60,080 miles as of December 10, 1998). Therefore, I can not positively verify the milage. It was not a big deal to me (the car being primarily a driver), but can understand how it could be to someone else.
    - Small hole in right rear baffle(mufflers and pipes are fine). Does not seem to effect exhaust sound at all, therefore I have not bothered to attend to it.
    - Small area of damage to rear of both driver and passenger seats (worse on driver side, pictured) caused by seat rubbing against soft top when top is down and seat is pushed fully back.
    - Center Console between seats needs small piece of fabric replaced.
    - Radio ???. I messed w/ it for 5 minutes after buying the car. It is the kind that the faceplate swivels around so that you can see the controls. I have no idea how to make that happen.

As one can see these are all minor items that, frankly, have not bugged me enough to bother correcting. I figured it best that prospective bidders be aware. Remember, this IS a great driver, NOT a concours show car.

Comes with an unused Michelin Redline spare tire mounted on wire wheel, knock off tool and hammer, and jack.

Please note that there is an orange tint to the exterior paint on the picture showing the bottom of the trunk. This must have been caused by the sun. The paint is NOT orange. Additionally, a couple of the interior pics make the door panals look a bit darker than the seats. They are not.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
