Technically I bought the car from a US Army Officer stationed in Germany who agreed to order the car through Europe By Car in December 1968. In March 1969, as agreed, I purchased the car from him, before the car was built! I have never met the officer, nor has he ever seen the car. On July 3, 1969 I picked up the car at the dock in NJ. It had 13.8 miles on the odometer and had not gone through dealer prep. It had tape on the bumpers, coated with a dull protective film, and the windshield wiper arms were not installed. I drove the car on back roads (no sustained high speeds) to my parent's home in Wisconsin where, with the help of my father, we did our own dealer prep. I have owned the car continuously since then, even spent three years in Europe. It has been driven more than 170,000 miles, 99.9% by me. It has been kept up over the years. Two years ago the car was restored as a "driver", but it turned out so nice I have been showing it and winning trophies. A few weeks ago it won the Popular Choice trophy from among 300+ British cars at a the British Car Field Day in Sussex, WI.
