This Jaguar E-Type Series 2 was the very first left-hand drive 2+2 built in 1970, and is presented in highly original condition. It is equipped with the original numbers-matching 4.2-litre straight-six engine, fed by twin Stromberg carburettors, and paired with the four-speed all-synchro manual transmission. The odometer indicates 93,939 miles from new, which is unwarranted but believed to be correct.

The car was completed on 1 January 1970, and dispatched to the US via the distributor in New York. There is documented evidence in the history of previous 30-year California ownership. It was recently imported to the UK, and is now a taxes-paid car with a NOVA clearance certificate from HMRC on file.

Its handsome Regency Red paintwork is in sound, presentable order, with only some small dents, chips and blemishes commensurate with its age. Importantly, the structure and body are free of rust in all areas. This is a solid example of the breed that has benefited from spending its life in warmer climes than most European-delivery cars. Its windscreen has been renewed and the front and rear rubbers have been replaced, along with new door weather strips.

All of the window glasses are the correct tinted Sundym items with no cracks. The chrome around the car presents very well with few flaws. There is no damage to any of the light lenses, and all of the fixings and gaskets are in good shape. It sits on a set of wire wheels with polished rims and Jaguar knock-off spinners, and the spokes are in very good order.

The interior is in excellent overall condition, with full beige leather that perfectly complements the dark red exterior. The front seats have recently been refurbished, with new cushions and re-trimmed covers. In the back, the rear seats are believed to be upholstered in the original leather, and there is a great patina to the rest of the trim in the cabin.

Ahead of the driver is a three-spoke wood-rimmed Jaguar steering wheel in super condition. The dashboard switchgear is original and has an appealing patina, though the factory air-conditioning is not currently working. Opening the side-hinged boot door reveals a luggage bay that presents very well.

Mechanically, this E-Type Series 2 is a strong driver with good oil pressure and all systems working as they should. Recently-renewed front suspension ball joints, track rod ends and a rebuilt steering rack make this Jaguar drive very smartly.

In May 2019, it was given a fresh service including a new set of spark plugs. At the same time, the engine and gearbox mounts were replaced, along with the sump gasket and rear main crank seal.

It was put through an MOT in June 2018, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The car is of course now exempt from MOT testing. The wheels wear period-style rubber, with Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres on the front axle and Michelin X radials on the rear.

This Jaguar E-Type Series 2 is a superb 2+2 coupe presented in a terrific colour combination and in sound condition. It is accompanied by a Production Record Trace Certificate from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, confirming the original specifications and delivery details. The strong 4.2-litre straight-six and manual transmission make this the driver’s choice, and this particular car represents a great opportunity to acquire a highly original example that is ready to enjoy straight away.
