Car to be at auction 7/15
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php
Auction description:
Lot 163 - 1968 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Series 2 Roadster- 30,000 miles from new
Estimate: £75,000 - £90,000
Registration Number: UK Registered
Chassis Number: IR27509
Delivered new through Jaguar Cars New York, the car was dispatched to its first owner - Mr R Stevens - on 7th November 1968 in regency red. The car changed hands again in 1971 to a Mr Eric Ree, who used the car until 1978 when it was put into storage.
The current vendor purchased the car from Eric in 2013 and embarked on a no-expense-spared restoration. Letters in the car's file confirm the mileage of 30,000, as does Mr Ree himself, who is still contactable, and who has fond memories of his 40 years of ownership of the car.
During the restoration, even the original engine builder signature was found on the block - further testament to the car's originality and in itself is unusual. The restoration work has been carried out by Gary Wakerly, who can only be described as one of the dying breed of 'old school' restorers with such passion and a so keen an eye for detail.
He works on only two or three cars at a time, and has carried out some world class restorations on all sorts of classics, from DB6s to Jenson Interceptors, for clients including Hollywood A-listers.
The engine rebuild was done by Townsend motors in Wiltshire, at which point the engine was taken apart completely and gently recommissioned, as warranted by the very low mileage - as such bills came to £5,825.35.
A total of just under £60,000 has been spent on the car, bringing it up to the excellent standard we see today in this matching numbers, genuine 30,000 mile E-type, which bears what must be one of the lowest mileages to be found on such a desirable car in today's market. Fantastically stylish and eminently useable, this E-type should not be missed. Utterly stunning.

Chassis number 1R27509 indicates this left the factory as a FHC. Has there been a chassis number mix up else when was the conversion to an OTS carried out ?

Classified ad price: $47,500, seller classics-rescue, 75k miles, car now said to be in Dallas, Texas.
Seller's description:
1970 Jaguar XKE Coupe (not 2+2) This Jag is a strong running and driving unit that could be used "as-is" or gone through cosmetically. The previous owner spent about $7500 on totally rebuilding the braking system, new tires, and some other odds and ends bringing the car out of a long term slumber. Miles are believed to be accurate and the car is rust free.
