No bolt, screw, wire, gauge or sub-assembly has been overlooked in this highly detailed restoration. Absolutely everything works including the clock, yes the original clock works! It has all the available extras offered in a 1969 E-Type including air-conditioning and the rare rear heated window. This car will pass any inspection with flying colors and is ready to show or drive.

Just after completion of the restoration this September the car was entered in two SCCA sanctioned Concours d’Elegance events. In the Capital Concours d’Elegance in Sacramento, CA it received both a 1st in class and the Grand Marshall Award, second showing in Serrano Concours d’Elegance at El Dorado Hills, California it was awarded 1st in class against a group of professionally restored and show prepared Jaguars and other English Sports Cars.

The mileage represented Is actual mileage since new on the engine, drive train, suspension and virtually any moving part on the car. This is not a since overhaul or restoration mileage, this is total mileage. You may ask, why a ground up restoration with such low mileage, I will explain below.

History
This E-Type was originally purchased from the Jaguar dealer in Monterey California and delivered to the first owner at the factory in England. After a vacation in Europe driving their new Jaguar it was shipped to the United States and driven in and around the Northern California area and has never left California since.

I purchased the car from the original owner to be a driver while I restored a very tired and at one time totaled 1963 E-Type. Shortly after purchasing this car realized that this completely original un-damaged fully documented always California 1969 E-Type was really the car I should be restoring. There has never been a spot of rust on this car, in fact the car has not even been wet for over 32 years. I sold the 63 unfinished to a person who wanted to race the car and who eventually sold it to a buyer in Japan, it could still be racing in Japan for all I know. Once selling the 63 I preceded to completely dissemble this car to the bare bones. At the start of the restoration I came across a 1970 E-Type with only 17,743 total miles since new that had been in an accident and sustained damage to almost all panels front, back and side to side including of course the very expensive bonnet. Even though repairable the owner decided to let the insurance company deal with it and pay him for the car. The engine, suspension, drive train, seats, gauges and basically any moving part hinge or latch was untouched. I could tell by the lack of any real wear on the seats and interior plus how new the engine and basically all the components of the car looked that it was truly this low a mileage car, it even had that new car smell. I had never felt the need to confirm the mileage until lately as I wanted to firmly document the mileage. After a simple Google search in the town listed on the original paperwork of the 1970 I found the previous owner who had wrecked the car and who in turn told me the story of his accident and also definitely confirmed the mileage, it is in fact was only 17,740 miles since new. For him it was a Sunday nice weather car and thus the very low mileage. He was shocked to hear his beloved jaguar was essentially now an award winning totally restored like new car once again.

At the time I started the restoration the original odometer on this car showed a little over 43,485 miles, it still ran well but I felt if I could get the 17,000+ Jag and transfer virtually any moving part to this car I would net a low mileage E-Type from top to bottom. To further add to the history the original color of this car was Willow Green, an ok color but I fell in love with the color of the 1970 parts car which was Regal Red and therefore also changed the color of this car from the inside out to Regal Red. You will not be able to find any Willow Green anywhere on this car as it was totally stripped to the bone and re-painted from the ground up.

Here is the net result of the restoration; the body number and VIN number are late 1969, the drive train including any moving part, hinge, gauge, switch and interior part, essentially any part other than the shell of the body is from the 1970 with just 17,795 miles total since new. Only one modification was made and that was to the differential. I purchased and replaced the US differential gear ratio back to the European 3.07:1 ratio. So the pinion and crown wheel are new. This modification saves 371 RPM @ 60MPH, 493 @ 80 and for information purposes only, a reduction of 617 RPM @ 100 MPH. It just cruises easy at 80, it’s just the way the car was designed to be.
Restoration Story

The Start
The restoration started over 33 years ago thinking it would take just over a year to complete. The restoration went well with the engine and drive train installed along with the full suspension. The engine and drive train were re-painted and detailed as needed. The rear suspension/differential and cage were fully disassembled striped and re-painted and detailed. The rear brake pads were replaced along with new caliper seals. The front suspension was, even though it was like new, disassembled inspected and detailed. The front brake calipers were dissembled and fit with all new rubber seals etc. All front suspension rubber boots were replaced.

The Paint
The car was prepped for literally months (part time) to get a perfect surface then painted in lacquer, the only real option at the time. The finished product was beautiful until the lacquer paint started to crack due to solvent venting created by the incorrect prep-sol being supplied by the paint supplier. This and the increasing demands of a business demanding more and more of my time and just life itself caused the project to become stalled. During the years the car awaited my return to the restoration the only time it was touched was for regular engine / drive train preserving procedures.

In January of 2009 an action plan was put into place to complete the restoration. In February of 2009 the car was transported to a friend’s body shop where I was able to have full run of the shop and the use of a professional painter who helped after hours to prep and ultimately paint the car with the latest in multi part paint with clear coat finish. The paint was color sanded and rubbed out to a glass finish, it is beautiful! All the latest paint equipment and techniques were available to utilize but the process still took 6 weeks working evenings and weekends.

The interior
In the pursuit of perfection most of the interior was replaced with new except for the two rear side panels the rear deck and rear hatch interior parts which still looked new, all the rest is new including; all new English wool carpets, new leather seats, new headliner, new front side and door panels including the sill. The interior is perfect.

The Completion
After the paint was completed it still took until August of 2010 to complete the restoration. Any parts that needed to be replaced were replaced. No bolt, fitting, pipe or component of any kind was overlooked. All 5 tires were replaced with new original vintage Dunlop 185HR/15 SP Sport Radials plus the 4 main rims were replaced with new Dayton Wire Wheels. The spare had never been used so it is original and perfect but it still received a new tire. The original wire wheels were near show quality but not as perfect as I wanted so I replaced them. The new wire wheels have stainless steel spokes and are fully sealed rims (No Tubes Needed).

List of the parts taken from the 1970 car and installed on this car is as follows:
· All running gear which included: engine, transmission, all suspension parts including brakes rotors and bearings, differential assembly with new crown and pinion gears.
· All components from the firewall forward were replaced with the newer low mileage components of the 1970 E-Type.
· All gauges, dash parts, switches were replaced with the newer parts.
· The complete Air Conditioner was taken from the 1970 car and installed in this car.
· Virtually any moving part of any kind right down to the door locks were replaced with the newer parts, the only parts left from the original car was the sheet metal body parts.

The car is now essentially a 17,795 total mileage automobile. Since the completion of the restoration approximately 45 miles have been added to the total mileage.

Parts replaced with new are as follows:
· Spoke Rims
· Tires (Exact match to the Dunlop tires originally delivered with car.)
· Leather Seats
· Headliner
· Visors
· Dash
· All rubber door seals, gaskets and trim parts
· Brake Pads
· Brake Caliper Rebuild Kits (All Rubber Seals)
· Tail light assemblies
· Chrome Resonators
· Door Glass
· All interior parts except rear side panels and rear floor panels
· All carpets
· Battery
· Battery Cables
· Rubber Hoses
· Numerous Nuts & Bolts
· A/C Hoses

If your are SERIOUS about owning the best E-Type you can find, you would be hard pressed to find better, and the low reserve price is set far below the cost it would take to restore any other candidate to this standard. And don't forget, this show model has only 17,000 original miles !!
