This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II roadster finished in Signal Red over a black leather interior and is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The previous owner reportedly acquired the car in 1978, and the current owner purchased it in 1992. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a black top boot, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. Reported service in 2019 included a replacement clutch, new engine and transmission mounts, a replacement brake master cylinder and servo, and a replacement alternator. This XKE is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner in Michigan with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a clean Ohio title in the name of the owner’s trust.
The body is finished in Signal Red with a black convertible soft top and a black top boot. Series II styling cues included taillights mounted below the wrap-around rear bumper, larger front marker lamps, and uncovered headlight buckets. According to the seller, the car was repainted in 1980, and paint checking and shrinking are noted on the nose near the right headlight.
Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Power-assisted disc brakes with inboard rear discs were standard equipment, and the seller notes that service in April 2019 included a replacement master cylinder and servo, new front and rear brake hoses, and replacement upper and lower ball joints.
The interior is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets and door panels as well as a black dashboard. Equipment includes an AM/FM cassette stereo, a wooden shift knob, and black lap belts.
A wood-rimmed factory steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring battery voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 78k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six features twin Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. According to the seller, service in 2019 included replacement engine and transmission mounts, front and rear oil seals, an oil change, and a replacement alternator.
The engine stamping 7R11744-9 matches the number noted on the under-hood identification plate as well as the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and the seller states that a replacement clutch was installed in 2019.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a manufacture date of March 24, 1970. The car is titled by its chassis number, 1R13122, with a prefix of “J70.”
