Seen on eBay, 5/2003. Ad reads:
"Time to get rid of another toy. This is an original, 1968 Jaguar XKE 2+2. It is beautiful and looks more like a piece of art than a car. Since I have way too many cars right now, and this one won't fit in our living room, it's got to go.
The Jag is all original, though I believe it may have been resprayed at some point along the way. The exterior is shiny black. The wheels and bumpers are shiny chrome. The interior also shines and is amazingly soft, supple and not dried out at all. The engine runs great though, as expected, occasional carb adjustments are necessary.
This car has automatic, air conditioning, am-fm radio and absolutely no power steering (get a workout while you drive). The wire wheels are in great condition and the spare tire (also a wire wheel) may possibly be the original (It has a very thin whitewall).
Typically, my XKE sits for a month or two in between uses. When it is used, it is rarely for more than 20 miles or so. When I do use it, the car does not get hot at all. It shifts fine with no slippage and stops on command (very important for a car).
I have 2 Ferraris and a couple of other exotics and I can honestly say none of the others gets the looks or the "thumbs up" that this one does. If you're in a hurry, don't take this car to the store because there will inevitably be a crowd around it when you return.
The car is priced very fairly. It is not the cheapest but I'm also not trying to squeeze out the last dollar. It is a very nice, original car at a fair price and these cars can only appreciate in value. Please do NOT ask for the reserve. It will not be disclosed prior to the auction end so as to be fair to all bidders.
License plate goes with the car.
Vehicle Condition
I will try to be as accurate and critical as possible in describing the car's condition. Realize, however, that this is a 35 year old car and, like most 35 year olds, reasonable wear and tear should be expected in addition to anything listed.
Drive Train: Runs great. Leaks a minimal anount of oil when parked for long periods of time. After sitting for long periods of time, it has always started as long as the manual choke is engaged. The engine does not run hot. Sometimes if the carbs are not in synch, it will "diesel" when turned off or idle high. The transmission and rear end are fine.
Exterior: Looks absolutely beautiful and perfect - from 10 feet. Upon ultra critical inspection, there are a few paint "bubbles." There are no dents. The chrome is in amazing condition, given the car's age. The left door does not close perfectly. It's almost as if the weather stripping keeps it from closing fully or the catch needs alignment. Windows and catches all are intact and work fine.
Interior: Seats are literally like new. I have no idea how they've kept so nicely over the years. The headliner is sagging a bit though is not so low as to hit the head of a normal driver. The steering wheel looks nice but has some weakness to it - very typical for these cars since the wheel is somewhat thin and you need good muscles to turn it. The AC button has fallen off but is in the car.
Misc: Horn does not work, one turn signal is not flashing, tach is temperamental and expect some other minor stuff I can't recall right now.
Tires are in great condition."
