I purchased this car in August of 2001 from the original owner. He had taken delivery of it (a US model) at the factory, and toured Europe with it for several months on vacation. His trip ended in Paris and the car was shipped to Southern California (his home). It remained there for most of it's life, and then moved to Northern California 10 or so years ago. It was converted to Ford power sometime in the early 80's. It's being put back together (stock appearing, Ford power) now after being off the road for the last 5 years

The car was being built to keep, with a focus on maintaining a stock appearing exterior, but with a more modern Ford drivetrain for carefree operation and effortless cruising. A powerful V8 engine, an overdrive transmission, and the 3.54 reared ratio would prove to be a superb combination. Unfortunately, due to changing priorities, I do not have the time to finish the car, so it is being offered for sale now, very near completion, for a new owner to finish and enjoy. Thousands and thousands of dollars have been spent so far, so this is a great opportunity for an XKE enthusiast to pick up this classic and finish it.
This XKE has been a California car for its entire life, and was owned by the original purchaser for nearly 34 years. He picked it up new personally at the factory, drove it on a European vacation in late 1966, and then shipped it back to the US. Somewhere in the early 80’s the car was converted to Ford V8 power and driven that way for the next 10 years. Around 1992 (the last registration sticker on the car) the Ford V8 died, and the owner put the car in his garage anticipating putting a new engine in it shortly. He bought a Mustang GT 302-FI engine for it, but never actually got it into the car. The project sat uncompleted until 2000 when I bought it and embarked on a major project to rebuild it nose to tail. Here is detailed description of the car’s condition, and the work completed so far.
Body- The body is overall in good condition. From what I can tell, it has been repainted only once- from its original light blue, to a silver-gray color (many years ago). The doors, hatch, and bonnet are generally in good condition. The floors and trunk bottom are all very sold, as are the rockers, and the car had only minor corrosion issues from place to place. Some minor rust repair was completed on several of the closing panels, and very minor work around the rear suspension trailing arm mounts. There are a few small surface areas still left to repair (very rear of the outer rocker panels, and one door shut face panel), but these are also fairly minor. One of the trunk floor stiffeners has some rust due to condensation building up on the sidewall of the spare tire (a very common XKE thing- it’s a minor annoyance). The front jacking points were examined closely, repaired as needed, and then coated with a rust resistant paint- the photos of either side show the areas after repair- there has been NO undercoating applied, and noting is covered up. These points are very solid and support the car easily with no creaking or flexing. The bonnet is in generally good shape. As expected, some of the internal support adhesive joints (to the bonnet underside) need to redone, but that is a fairly simple job with today’s superior adhesives. All of the original chrome is intact and in presentable shape, especially considering it is nearly 40 years old. All of the original glass is in good shape. The (original) windshield has a crack in it, but a brand new (not used, new) replacement windshield is included, along with a brand new rubber seal, both still in the box. The heater box was completely disassembled, cleaned, refinished, reassembled, and reinstalled in the car with a good core. One very nice feature the car is an ultra-low profile, electric, sliding glass sunroof. It does not project above the roofline, and slides smartly down and under the rear roof with the push of a button. This was professionally installed (likely manufactured by ASC), and also has a sliding (by hand) sunshield on the inside.
Front suspension- The front suspension was completely and totally disassembled, cleaned, refinished, and reassembled. All of the frames were sent out for black powder coat, and every suspension piece was refinished in a tough baked–on gray enamel. The suspension was reassembled using all new (black) polyurethane bushings, new ball joints, and new hardware (every screw, nut, washer, etc.,.). Additionally, a Jaguar Specialties 7/8” front sway bar upgrade was installed. The stock rear sway bar is included with the car, but is not currently installed.
Steering- The steering rack was checked carefully, and found to be in good shape. It was cleaned, refinished, and then reinstalled in the car along with brand new rack mounts, new tie rod ends, and new rack boots. The upper steering column was rebuilt with new bushings, and the lower steering column received 2 new U-joints as well.
Rear suspension- The rear suspension has also been completely refurbished. It was disassembled down to the last nut, and the cage, lower A-arms, and trailing arms were sent out for black powder coat. The original rear hubs were exchanged for much stronger XJ6 Series 3 hubs, and these were completely rebuilt with all new wheel bearings, new pivot bearings, and new seals. The halfshafts received all new U-joints as well before reassembly. The differential itself (the original 3.54 posi unit) has also been completely, professionally rebuilt, and was re-installed in the cage. It has not yet even been filled with oil or positraction additive. All hardware on the rear suspension was replaced before it was reinstalled in the car with all new cage mounts, and new trailing arm bushings.
Wheels/tires- the car rolls on an absolutely beautiful set of original Jaguar chrome wire wheels (curly style), with excellent 205-70 Pirelli P5 tires. There is no corrosion on the wheels, and they were professionally tuned up prior to reinstallation.
Brakes- The brake system was completely refurbished, nose to tail. The front (3 piston) calipers were cleaned and rebuilt with all new pistons, seals, and semi-metallic bake pads. Stainless steel brake hoses were installed as well, all steel brakes lines cleaned and reinstalled, and new wheel bearings installed in both original front hubs. The front rotors on the car were found to be in good shape and turned and reused. In the rear, the brakes were upgraded with XJ6 main calipers and parking brake calipers. The standard XKE brake lines were slightly modified to ft the new calipers, and stock XKE parking brake equalizer operates perfectly with the XJ6 calipers and applies the parking brake as it should. All new semi-metallic brake pads (main calipers and parking brake calipers) were installed. The rotors were turned and reinstalled. The main brake hydraulics were also completely rebuilt- this includes the main brake servo, reaction valve, and both the master and slave cylinders. The original brake fluid reservoirs were cleaned and refurbished (so the level sensors work). The only work left on the brake system, is to mount the brake reservoirs, complete the installation of the steel brake line from front to rear (requires one flare to be made at the brake switch fitting), fill up the system, and bleed it.
Electrical- The electrical system in the car is fully functional and working. The heater fan motor has been upgraded to a commercial unit that appears identical to the original but flows more air. All of the center panel gauges have been upgraded to XJ6 Series 3 pieces- they fit the panel perfectly, and are hard to tell from the originals. These run on 12V and do away with the funky XKE gauge voltage regulator. A small relay was added near the fuse box to switch ignition power to those components that require it, and thus put only a very small load on the ignition switch itself. The wiper motor was rebuilt and reinstalled and works perfectly at all speeds. All of the other electrical components- lights, flasher, horn relay, interior lamp, etc.,.- all function properly. The original speedometer is in the dash, and a matching XKE Series 2 (electric) tachometer has been retrofitted (the plan on the tach was to send it out to be retrofitted with a modern tachometer movement). A brand new turn signal switch was purchased and installed, as well as a new headlight dim/dip switch, and a full set replacement switch knobs. The wiring under the bonnet has been completely refurbished, and is only waiting for the new owner to route/run it per his preference. All wiring here has been labeled for easy installation.
Drivetrain- The drivetrain here is a 1986 Mustang GT 302 (5.0 liter) V8 and AOD (4 speed automatic overdrive) transmission. The engine is a low mileage unit that was tested prior to installation and had fine compression. All new exterior gaskets and seals were replaced, new freeze plugs installed, and an Edelbrock Performer intake mounted. A Ford electronic distributor was installed, along with brand new cap, rotor, and spark plug wires. A Holley 650cfm vacuum secondary carb with electric choke is mounted on the intake (the carb has not been run in several years, so a brand new Holley rebuild kit is included). On the cooling side, a high volume aluminum water pump was installed, and a brand new Griffin high performance radiator was purchased to be installed (it is not mounted in the car yet). Also included is an original XKE style brass radiator modified to be used with the V8 (this was the radiator used when the car was first converted to Ford power in the 80’s). The transmission is originally from an 86 Lincoln, and has been rebuilt. A new driveshaft was professionally built for the car using an AOD front yoke, and a Jaguar rear flange, using all new U-joints, and complete balancing. A basically stock XKE automatic shifter operates the AOD transmission through all its gears. Two different brand new transmission oil coolers are included with the car. None of the frames were modified for installation of the engine- the engine mounts clamp over the lower tubes of the side frame rails, and even the stock Jaguar engine mounting pads are still present. The transmission crossmember is mounted directly to the floor of the car, and only some minor modifications to the transmission tunnel were required to accommodate the AOD. The stock XKE suspension reaction plate is mounted in its stock location (below the transmission). A set of new Lokar throttle and AOD kickdown cables are included with the car. A custom set of Tri-Y headers are installed on the car and fit nicely, ready for a new exhaust system to be built. There is no exhaust system on the car now. The fuel tank was boiled out and relined some years ago, and has been reinstalled in the car (empty), ready to be refilled. The fuel level sending unit was tested and works perfectly with the XJ6 fuel gauge.
Interior- for the most part, the interior appears stock, with the only exception of a pair of black cloth Flofit sport seats in front. The rear seat is original Jaguar black leather and in good shape. The remainder of the interior panels are still installed and in their original blue color. The dash pad is in good shape overall, and could use a new cover. A brand new complete body seal kit (every weather stripping on the car) is included in a box, ready to be installed, as is a brand new blue wool carpet kit, also never installed. The original wood steering wheel was refinished and looks very nice. My only plans for the interior were to recover the panels in black, redo the headliner, and install the carpet. Two different original Jaguar XKE consoles are included to make for a custom installation per the new owner’s wishes.
Nearly everything needed to finish car, so the new owner’s time will be the only limitation to getting it back on the road. I am very torn having to sell the car so close to completion, but that’s how it goes
The car has spent the last 4 years stored in a warm garage, and has not spent one night outside. At this time, the car is complete and rolling, and can be easily loaded onto a transporter or trailer. It is not running. The bonnet has been removed and stored inside with the car. The bonnet can be placed back on the car per the new owner’s wishes, or picked up separately.
The car is being sold “as-is, where is”. This is a nearly 40 year old car that has had extensive recent work completed, but will still need plenty of your attention. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. I purchased this car from Andrew in January of 2005 and had it shipped to Massachusetts. It has been in my heated garage ever since and I have been slowly putting the rest of the work into it. Life has been taking a lot of time, so, the car has not made much progress, but I did get the new windshield in and the radiator modifications done and installed. Still need to get all the hoses routed and complete the brakes, electrical, and exhaust. The mounting of the alternator is a bit of a mystery and I will have to figure that part out as there are no pictures of how it was mounted previously.

I have started the car (using a separate electric fuel pump and gas can) and the car can be driven onto a trailer.

As of December 2013 the 67 e type is in for paint after doing a reasonable amount of body work. The NEW color will be a Ford shade of amber. The interior will be next with all but the radio having been acquired. Still expecting a 2015 completion.

To date, this car has new Autometer gauges, Ididit steering column, new Dunlap tires, Vintage air, Procar seats, Edelbrock carb, exhaust rebuild, custom alt. and compressor brackets with new pulleys, custom air cleaner, complete GM wiring harness and electronic ignition along with new plug wires and looms. Many other little things that are typical of this type of build. Sorry, but it will keep its Ford V8 and Ford AOD tranny cause it runs great.

In the spring of 2015 I finished the interior. I feel it looks very good with a difficult to install head liner and all marine grade carpet and vynel. All coverings were from rolled sheet goods. This included the A pillers, door panels, arm rest, dash, sun visors and console.
The car is finished. A trip to Indianapolis in July 2015 from South Carolina did find the brakes on the rear stick a little but it was close to 100 degrees and happened twice. Thinking manuel brakes as my 67 Vette has them and work just fine.
