Sellers comment:
This is a 1967 Jaguar XKE 2+2 Series 1 that I recently acquired. The front frame was modified for a Chevy 350 V8 engine and a Chevy 350 transmission last summer. I removed the Chevy engine and transmission, and set the original 4.2L Jaguar 6 cylinder engine and automatic transmission in the car. The Chevy engine and transmission are NOT included with this sale. Please note that the original engine and transmission are NOT installed (they're just sitting in place, and the engine is not running. The previous owner told me that the engine was running when he took it out, and he did the engine swap because he could never get the SU carb’s tuned right. I had to remove the carburetors to set the engine in place because the front frame had additional braces welded in for the Chevy V8. The engine turns freely, and appears to be in good shape. I accidentally broke the belt idler pulley when I was handling the engine, but this can be easily replaced. There is no drive shaft since it was modified for the Chevy transmission, I took it out, and it does not go with the car. The previous owner installed all new SS brake calipers and new SS brake lines to each. He said that he spent $3200 in parts rebuilding the brakes and rear end. Most of the molding is in tact, and most is in good shape. The interior was reupholstered with vinyl and is in reasonable condition. The spoke rims are in excellent condition, and that includes the spare. There are 5 brand new Goodyear tires on the car, and they have less than 200 miles on them. The body is in good condition but there is some rust in the usual places including the door bottoms, above the wheel openings, etc. However, the metal around all the windows is in great condition, and all the glass is crack free and clear. The electrical system is pretty well trashed. 2 of the gauges have been replaced with after market gauges. Now for the bad part…the previous owner wrecked the car in the front by impacting a fence. As can be seen in the photo’s, the top panel of the bonnet could be repaired easily, but the side panels and the lower panel would need to be replaced. This is primarily because the damage revealed rust in those panels. If this car is going to be restored, I think it would be easy to just replace the front frame section. There are also loose parts that go with the car including the original knock off hammer, misc trim parts and a replacement right headlight cover. The original air cleaner and heater box are missing. The orinal owner did not have them.
This car is one of two current projects that I have going and one must go. This car is a good candidate for restoration, or would be a great parts car for another project. I have no reserve and if the car doesn't sell outright, I'm willing to part the car out. I probably would make much more money parting the car, but I just don't have time, and it's still a good candidate for restoration. I have a clear title that goes with the sale.
