Advertised on Carsales .com.au January 2020, asking AU$117,000. Owner’s description: “This is a matching numbers car. Heritage Certificate is available. Before my ownership this car had a full restoration including being reupholstered in leather. The car has a very strong blue-printed motor fitted with D type cams and extractors and is well sorted. It also has a very functional factory-fitted Webasto sun roof. The wheels have been replaced and done very little miles. This is a very tidy and reliable car with nothing to do but to drive it and enjoy it. I have owned this car for over 10 years”.

Car has automatic transmission. Car number should have BW suffix. BW suffix was omitted in error when this car was listed.

Advertised for sale on carsales.com.au 16 September 2023, asking AU$129,950. Car is in Brisbane, Australia. Seller’s description (edited) follows:

Heritage Certificate confirms this car was manufactured 23rd March 1967, despatched 10th April and delivered new in the UK through City Motor Depot. The car was originally dark blue with a light blue interior, and was first registered in Leeds, UK with the registration JUM399.  The car retains its original matching numbers engine (both cylinder head and block).

The early history of this car is not known and it is not known exactly when it was imported into Australia, however, it was prior to 1989. The earliest known history of the car in Australia is with an owner in Point Vernon, Queensland. During his ownership the engine was rebuilt by Andersens Engine Reconditioning in Pialba, Queensland in 2005. There is an invoice on file for the work done.  It is understood the car was restored during his ownership, though it is not known if that included the change to its current colour. He passed away and the car was sold in 2008.  The next owner of this car lived nearby in Hervey Bay, Queensland. It was used sporadically before being sold to the current owner in 2020.

The car comes with a recent history file, Heritage Certificate, and owner’s manual.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
