Ebay item 3/25
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/376071578167
Classified ad price £40,000, seller evoke-classics, 76k miles
Seller's description:
An original home market car
Originally owned by the Moores (Littlewoods family)
Engine and gearbox rebuilt
Owned by our vendor for 38 years
Located in Birkenhead, Cheshire CH49
Good Jaguar E-Types are one of the true joys of classic motoring. Later Series 1 cars like this one are arguably the most sought after. They are practical and useable. The larger 4.2 litre XK engine is matched with a later synchromesh gearbox which is easier to use and makes for much improved driveability. Age hasn’t diminished this E-Type’s appeal, it still has the ability to stop passers-by in their tracks.
History and background
The original buff logbook tells us:
This is an original home market car
First registered 10th March 1967
The first two owners are listed as Littlewoods Mail Order Service Ltd
The next owner was Mrs Moores
Our vendor acquired the Jaguar in 1987 and has spent significant sums during his ownership, on the engine, gearbox and other mechanical items
He told us: “The person I purchased this Jaguar from, kept it for use by Harlech TV. I’ve owned the Jaguar since 1987 but for the last 15 years it has been used very sparingly, run locally to keep moving parts free”
The recorded mileage is approximately 76,500 miles.
Given its low usage over the last fifteen years we would suggest the winning bidder has the Jaguar transported
Mechanicals
The clamshell looks clean
Triple carbs
Various ancillaries look new
Our vendor told us:
“It has new P6 Tyres
Stainless Steel Wires
Within the past 100 miles (10 years) the gear box has been rebuilt
New clutch
The carbs have undergone a total rebuild
Kenlowe fan installed
All brakes renewed
The engine was fully rebuilt fifteen years ago”
Inside
Inside, this Jaguar E-Type is in good original condition. With some elbow grease and the help of various treatments, such as Connolly leather treatment, it could be outstanding.
Original black leather
The soft, supple Series 1 seats are a pleasure to sit in
The seats are comfortable and functional
The door cards, carpets, mats and headlining are in good condition
The steering wheel, gear lever, instruments, dials and controls all look equally good
The Smiths dials, controls, vast bank of switches, combined with that smart three-spoke sports steering wheel deliver a brilliant classic car experience.
Unusually, the dials are strikingly clear with little signs of ageing. Additionally, all the original rocker switches look the same, with the original factory descriptions still legible.
The original radio has been replaced.
Our vendor told us
“All original parts that have been replaced, have been kept should they be required. MOT certificates kept and receipts for parts have been kept. Missing parts are; 1 window sun visor & battery clamps.”
Outside
There is some snobbery about the 2+2 styling, mostly by people who’ve never driven or owned one. They are unmistakably an E-Type. More importantly the extra space means anyone can climb in and out, and they are much more practical for everyday use. Ignore the snobbery.
One thought that might cross your mind when buying any E-type is the toll the British summertime inflicts.
Our vendor tell us that this Jaguar “has never been kept outdoors since it has been bought” he goes on, “the body work has a few spots / marks as expected but nothing major”. The images supplied by the vendor do support this. It does look very smart and clean.
