Car was at auction in '09
www.brightwells.com/3rdparty/orphanspress/classiccars/viewdetails.php

Auction description:
Lot number 52
Hammer value £12,400
Jaguar E-Type S1 2+2 Automatic
Registration GEE 428D
Year 1966
Colour White
Engine size 4,235 cc
Chassis No. 1E50410BW
Engine No. 7E521519

First registered in September 1966, this is an exceptionally well-maintained example that has undergone a process of continuous improvement over the last 20 years although it has been very little used throughout that time. Parts renewed or rebuilt are far too numerous to list here, but the highlights include: a full VSE engine rebuild to lead-free spec less than 500 miles ago; uprated Coopercraft brakes; six-inch chrome wire wheels with 205/70/15 tyres; full interior retrim; new fuel tank; new suspension; new wiring loom; new steering rack; new engine frame; new bonnet; new seat belts; stainless steel exhaust; Panasonic CD player.

The bodywork looks to be in excellent shape with good panel fit all round and nice glossy paint. An automatic model, the car is said to drive beautifully and apparently outpaces a manual E-Type owned by a friend of the vendor! It comes with a huge file of bills detailing all the parts replaced to date and every old MOT back to 1998 showing regular but very sparing use. Due to have a fresh MOT before the sale, it looks excellent value at the guide price suggested today.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
