Car for sale. Ad text reads:

1967 Jaguar XKE FHC
Chassis Number: 1E34366
Motor Number: 7E13377
Note: Chassis and motor number match. This car is being sold on behalf of the family of Don McCarten, a long-time enthusiast who died suddenly in March. It is a late Series I
The documentation with the car states the following:
Don purchased the car in 1978 from a US serviceman who brought the car with him when he returned from Europe. That same year, the car was restored and the following work performed:
Body stripped to bare metal and repainted same color, signal red
All corrosion repair done with metal
no plastic
Engine removed, head resealed
New clutch installed
Exterior chrome replated
This work was performed at 40K miles. The car now shows 44K, but the speedometer is not working, so total mileage cannot be stated with confidence. This mileage is believed to be reasonably accurate because the car was never used in daily driving.
There are receipts from the previous owneer for a complete engine rebuild in 1976 at 36K miles.
Additional work noted:
Stainless steel exhaust system
Porcelain-coated exhaust manifold
Body and paint: Twenty-five year-old paint still in very good condition, but could use minor touch-up to repair chips on hood louvers and side of bonnet. Surface prep during repaint was not to show quality, so some minor sanding marks and orangepeel can be seen. A careful wet-sanding and wax would result in great improvement. The right door needs a new gasket and requires adjustment to get the gap and closing right. There is a minor crease at the bottom edge of the right door. Judging from the subframe and firewall the original color of the car was gold.
There are signs of metal work in the under body, where new pieces have been riveted in the floor and spare tire well areas. There is no evidence of rust.
The body chrome is complete and uniformly excellent, with only minor pitting apparent on the closest examination.
Interior:
New carpets, door panels and sill covers. Seats tired and worn, with deep creases.
Engine
The engine is the higher compression (9:1) version.
Runs very well, no problems starting either hot or cold. Starts instantly with
choke when cold and quickly settles down. Idle slightly rough when hot and smells a bit rich, indicating carburetor adjustment or other work may be in order.
Excellent power, great exhaust sound. Engine compartment is very clean and tidy
. Oil pressure 20+ psi at hot idle and 40+ when driving. Water temperature stays around 70-80. No leaks apparent. Alternator appears to be functioning normally.
Drivetrain
A problem noted when the car was first driven was that the clutch was very stiff and either in or out in the top inch of travel. A tendency to slip was also noted. Upon investigation, the master cylinder, slave cylinder and hose were replaced, and the system was flushed and bled. The clutch action is now normal, but some slipping is still occurring.
The transmission engages easily in all gears and shifts smoothly. It is stated
that the car has the European 3.07 rear axle, and impression while driving the car confirm that it is very long-legged.
The tires are barely worn made-in-France Michelin radials, with a red stripe. While these appear quite striking, they have flat spots that produce a vibration at lower speeds particularly during the first few miles. Otherwise the car is an absolute joy to drive at any speed.
Wire wheels are in good condition.
Brakes
All flex hoses recently replaced. Rear pistons/cylinders were replaced. Entire hydraulic system flushed and bled.
Steering and Suspension
No problems noted.
Electrical
Turn signals not working.
Horn not working. Relay clicks but no sound from horns.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
