This 1967 Jaguar XKE coupe was acquired by the seller from its reported second owner in May 1975 and has since been refinished in ivory over black leather. The seller has also installed a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit. Other equipment includes triple SU carburetors, an electric fuel pump, a stainless-steel exhaust system, a Kenwood cassette radio, and a custom-ducted fresh-air intake. This Series I fixed-head XKE is now offered at no reserve with the seller’s records, manufacturer’s literature, the removed numbers-matching engine and transmission, spare parts including an overdrive unit, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. All proceeds from the sale—including the BaT buyer’s fee—will go to the Community Foundation Santa Cruz County for the Judith C. Stobbe Scholarship Fund for Alianza Charter School, a college scholarship awarded annually to graduates of the Watsonville, California, school.
Following a 1998 parking-lot incident in which the driver-side door and bulkhead side panel were damaged, the door was replaced and the body color was changed from green to ivory. Exterior features include headlight covers, dual bullet-style side mirrors, wraparound chrome bumpers with guards, dual center-exit exhaust outlets, and a side-opening rear hatch. The seller notes the presence of rock chips and door dings as well as a paint flaw ahead of the left-side mirror where it was at one time mislocated. Chrome on the bumpers displays pitting, the windshield and the rear-window surrounds are weathered, and the front license plate retractor is missing.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels wear knock-off nuts and Uniroyal Tiger Paw XTM tires said to have been mounted in 1996; three of four wheels reportedly have been relaced with stainless-steel spokes. A matching spare with an older Michelin redline tire resides in the rear compartment along with a jack and a mallet. The brake wheel cylinders and servo have been sleeved with stainless steel, and the master cylinder has been replaced; silicone-based brake fluid is used.
The cabin features bucket seats and a center console trimmed in black leather with a matching dash pad, door panels, and carpeting. Carpathian burled elm veneers adorn the dashboard. The seats, door armrests, center armrest, and dash pad have been reupholstered under current ownership. An auxiliary air duct on the right underside of the hood was fabricated by the seller and delivers fresh-air ventilation to the passenger-side footwell by way of the right-hand-drive pedal-box aperture; the duct’s electric fan is inoperative.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline and an inset clock. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles and is said to have rolled over once; the seller has added approximately 75k miles in 46 years of ownership. The clock is inoperative.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is an E-Type replacement of 1970 vintage that reportedly was acquired by the seller in 1971 and was rebuilt and installed in 1998. It is equipped with a trio of SU HD8 carburetors off of the original engine plus an electric fuel pump and pressure regulator that were installed in 2020. The seller has installed a pre-oiler that pumps oil to the camshafts before the engine is started along with an oil/water intercooler that utilizes the thermostat-bypass line to route coolant through copper coils in the sump. Other modifications include custom panels and foam seals that assure air entering through the nose is routed to the radiator. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale, and the sump gasket is said to leak.
Exhaust gases exit via fiberglass-wrapped header pipes flowing into a replacement stainless-steel exhaust system for which a custom-made heat shield has been installed between the mufflers and the floorboards. The heat shield incorporates a scoop that directs air past the transmission and through the driveshaft tunnel to exit at the differential and inboard rear brakes.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual gearbox equipped with a Jaguar Mark X overdrive unit, for which the transmission tunnel has been altered to accommodate. The seller describes a whine from the differential that began in the mid-1980s after a gasket leak led to the differential oil being drained; the seller states that the ring and pinion should be replaced.
The factory engine burned oil when it was removed at 111k miles and is said to turn over. It is included in the sale along with factory parts that include the numbers-matching transmission, the windshield, a radio, service and owner’s manuals, and a spare-parts book. Also accompanying the car are an unused overdrive unit, a starter, a pair of replacement foam seat cushions, a rear bumper blade, a glass headlight cover and two chrome surrounds, a replacement windshield seal and taillight gaskets, new chrome sill trim, half of a chrome rear-window surround, a new front fender, and an unused hood center section for a Series 2 XKE. The seller notes that the factory tool roll is missing.
The pink California Ownership Certificate title shows an issue date to the seller in June 1975 and indicates that the vehicle was registered on its current black California license plate at that time. The identification number listed on the title has a “J67” prefix that is not part of the car’s actual chassis number and refers to the “J67” metal tag of the type attached to California cars.
