Perhaps Jaguar’s own employees and top brass anticipated the public’s reaction to seeing the E-Type when it was unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, but the impact the car had on the automotive industry simply could not have been predicted.
The E-Type stole the hearts of everyone at the show and proved to be just as successful commercially as well. With a top speed of 150 mph, thanks to a handful of technological improvements and lessons learned in racing from the D-Type, the E-Type proved to be a spectacular car in all regards. Enzo Ferrari was even rumored to have called the E-Type the most beautiful car ever built.
Nineteen sixty-four brought the advent of a number of changes for the E-Type, namely the 4.2-litre engine. Although still offering the same 265 bhp as the earlier 3.8-litre engine, the 4.2-litre motor now offered 83 more foot-pounds of torque. Another major change was the fitment of a new gearbox: a fully synchronized, four-speed manual transmission with a new Laycock diaphragm clutch. Engine cooling was also revised, and there was a new alternator to replace the generator. The brakes were improved with better power-assist, and the seatbacks were now adjustable. These changes greatly improved the overall feel and driving dynamics of the car, improving on Jaguar’s already brilliant design.
Offered here is something truly special: an original new E-Type with only one meticulous owner from new. This E-type was owned by one enthusiast gentleman who recorded every single service ever performed to the vehicle – often including an odometer reading for reference. The journal in which he recorded these services begins on 9 March 1966 with the Jaguar’s 1,000-mile check-up and ends over four decades later on 30 November 2013 with the odometer reading 107,880 miles. The car is overwhelmingly original throughout and is still fitted with its original engine. Recent inspection has shown that much of the exterior paint is original, with evidence of repainting many years ago on the right side and driver’s side rear fender following minor damage – all noted in the service journal. The interior remains in very well-preserved original condition.
Having travelled with the owner from his original home in Oklahoma and then to sunny California in the 1970s, the E-Type was a constant companion until the owner sadly passed away in 2015. The past three years have seen the Jaguar in covered storage, but a recent mechanical service and new tires have ensured that it is in running order.
True “one owner from new” cars, especially one in as original condition as this, are becoming increasingly hard to find. Accompanied by complete documentation, the original tool roll, and owner’s manuals, this is an exceptional E-Type in all regards, and one that should not be overlooked.

This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was purchased new from Wilkerson Motor Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and remained with the original owner until their passing in 2015. The car underwent refurbishment work in 2019 and was acquired by the selling dealer in June 2023. Power comes from a rebuilt 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in Opalescent Dark Green over black upholstery. Equipment includes chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, covered headlights, split chrome-finished bumpers, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. Work since 2021 has included repairing a belt tensioner, the driver’s window frame, and passenger-side door lock as well as replacing the fuel tank, fuel filter and hoses, and a clutch hose. This XKE Roadster is offered by the selling dealer in New York with removed and spare parts, a tool kit and jack, manufacturer’s literature, a JCNA concours score sheet, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, original purchase paperwork, a hand-written 1966-2013 log book, service records, and a transferrable Connecticut registration.
The car was completed on April 27, 1966, and is finished in Opalescent Dark Green. Features include covered headlights, chrome split bumpers with overriders, three windshield wipers, a side-hinged hatch, and polished central exhaust outlets. The door seals were replaced and paintless dent repairs were performed in February 2019, and the driver’s window frame and passenger-side door lock were repaired in April 2021. Accident damage is noted in a November 26, 1969 entry in the log book, and the selling dealer has provided paint meter readings in the gallery below along with close-up photos detailing exterior wear and blemishes.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-series Pirelli Cinturato tires that were replaced in April 2019. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the brakes and suspension were overhauled during 2019 refurbishment work carried out by Paul Russell & Company of Essex, Massachusetts.
Appointments include a passenger-side grab handle, lap belts, square weave floor mats, a toggle switch panel, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. The blower motor was replaced in February 2019. A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and now shows 9k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors, and peak output was rated at 265 horsepower when new. The engine was disassembled and overhauled during the aforementioned 2019 refurbishment work, and the carburetors were rebuilt. A replacement belt tensioner was installed in May 2021, and the fuel tank, an inline fuel filter, hoses, and pickup were replaced in May 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The transmission was re-sealed and the clutch replaced during the 2019 refurbishment work.
Documentation accompanying the car includes manufacturer’s literature, a Jaguar Clubs of North America concours score sheet, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a hand-written log book documenting service, use, and repairs, as well as 1966 purchase paperwork from Wilkerson Motor Company detailing colors, equipment, and a $6,280 total price.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its transferrable Connecticut registration.

We are proud to offer this 1966 Jaguar XKE Series One Coupe in highly original condition. Construction was completed on the 27th of April, 1966 and delivered to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in the early fall of the same year. On August 9th, 1966, Herbert Hyatt would take out a loan for $4,032 from the First National Bank in Bartlesville, OK, to purchase his brand new Jaguar XKE Coupe. Mr. Hyatt would become the long-term owner of this spectacular Jaguar for 49 years until his passing in 2015. Meticulous documentation from Mr. Hyatt records any and all service work ever completed during his ownership, filling an entire booklet with detailed notes and specifications. While the car was maintained mechanically to the highest standard, Mr. Hyatt was ahead of his time by understanding the value of keeping the car in original cosmetic condition. The XKE retains most of its original paint, and the original interior is in superb original condition. During the mid-1970s Mr. Hyatt would move his family and his beloved XKE to the Sunshine State, where the XKE would live out its days. Upon Mr. Hyatt’s passing in 2015, the very original XKE would be passed down to his son, who cared for the vehicle until 2018.
Under new ownership in 2019, the XKE was brought to Paul Russell and Company for a comprehensive mechanical refurbishment. During this process the numbers matching engine was completely rebuilt. The fuel system was completely overhauled including a new fuel tank and rebuild of the three Solex carburetors. A stainless steel exhaust system replaced the old steel exhaust with the original exhaust tips re-installed to maintain their period appearance. A full service was completed to the entire braking system including all new rubber lines. The transmission was disassembled and re-sealed and a new clutch, throw-out bearing and master cylinder were installed. The front suspension received new torsion bars, bushings and ball joints. The rear suspension was overhauled and received all new bushings. The original seats were carefully disassembled and repaired to maintain their impeccable condition for years to come and a new carpet set was made and installed in house.
The end product is an excellent example of a very original Jaguar XKE Coupe that has been rebuilt to “As-New” mechanical standards with preservation in mind. Original cars are becoming harder to find and we are privileged to offer this incredible example today.
