ABOUT THIS VEHICLE

There's no question that the monocoque- chassis E-Type with its fully independent suspension was not only extremely advanced technologically but was also a stunning visual statement. The Series 1 is surely the best- looking of all, with its svelte curves and covered headlights. Under that long forward-hinged one piece bonnet was a continuation of Jaguar's big race-proven twin-cam inline six. In 4.2-litre form and fitted with triple SU carburetors, the driver had a conservative 265 hp and lots of torque underfoot. With less than 2,800 lbs. of curb weight and the 4.2-litre engine the car was capable of 150 mph, making it the fastest production automobile in the world. Beginning in 1964, E-Types received a much-improved fully synchronized four-speed gearbox, and vacuum-assisted brakes. Inside, there were more comfortable seats for driver and passenger, a new central armrest, and additional leather trim.

A JDHT Certificate that is supplied with this E-Type Coupe states that it was completed on November 30, 1965, and shipped December 10, 1965 to Canada, where its first owner is shown to be a J. Brian Clark of Don Mills, Ontario. The Jaguar was then sold to a serviceman stationed in Manitoba who changed the color to silver due to excessively hot summer weather on the Canadian prairie. Ken Mason, owner of a Jaguar restoration firm near Orangeville, Ontario, subsequently purchased the Coupe. Mr. Mason recently stated that the car was very clean, had no evidence of corrosion, and showed just 25,000 miles at the time of purchase. He drove the car for less than a year before selling it to Peter Lang in 1998.

The consignor, a well-known Jaguar enthusiast of Montreal, Quebec, then purchased the Jaguar from Mr. Lang a few years ago. A complete cosmetic restoration was then performed by SLR Restoration, with the consignor disassembling and then reassembling the car. The body shell was soda-blasted, prepped, sprayed its original black, and then clear-coated. Paint in the engine compartment, under the dash, and the underbody is stated to be original; and various parts were re-chromed as required. The original red leather interior was in very good condition and was re-dyed. The coupe has five new chromed 72-spoke wire wheels, fitted with new tires. The speedometer retains its factory odometer adjustment sticker. Most amazingly, the engine and gearbox appear to have never been apart. The consignor stated compression is a level 155 psi across the board. A new stainless-steel exhaust system was thoughtfully fitted by a previous owner. The consignor describes this striking E-Type as a turn-key, no-issue car that performs today as it did when new. The sale of this beautiful Jaguar is accompanied by a correct jack, tool roll, and manuals, along with a JDHT Certificate. Showing just 47,358 miles at the time of cataloguing, this fine, matching-numbers Series 1 E-Type Coupe is ready to drive or show.
