This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was built on September 14, 1965 and reportedly remained with the family of its original owner prior to its acquisition by the seller in 2019. Finished in red over black vinyl, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The front suspension was overhauled in 2014, and equipment includes triple SU carburetors, 15″ wire wheels with knock-off spinners, and four-wheel disc brakes. This XKE is now being offered with a binder of service records and parts receipts, a tool kit, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, factory manuals, photos from prior ownership, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The exterior was finished from the factory in Carmen Red and is believed to have been repainted some time ago. The glass headlight covers were replaced in 2003, and the chrome bumperettes were re-plated in 2010. Additional equipment includes an Amco-style rear bumper bar, dual center outlet exhausts, and louvered hood vents.
The 15” chrome wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are wrapped in Michelin Symmetry tires sized 205/70. A full-size spare is found in the rear storage area, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. Maintenance in 2014 included overhauling the front suspension with replacement shock absorbers, ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings, and more.
The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl with a matching dashboard and carpets. The seats were fitted with replacement foam in 2004, and the headliner and seatbelts were also replaced at this time. An AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary input is mounted in the center console.
A factory wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock. Auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash, and the five-digit mechanical odometer shows just over 80k miles, only a handful of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and an electric cooling fan and was rebuilt in 2004 by Woodinville Sports Cars, Inc. of Woodinville, Washington. The cam cover gaskets and intake manifold studs were replaced in 2014, and a number of receipts for parts and services are provided in the gallery.
Cylinder head stamping number 7E5743-9 matches the number stamped on the data plate as well as the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. A matching engine block stamping is pictured in the gallery. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which was resealed during the engine rebuild in 2004.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists a build date of September 14, 1965 along with the factory colors and the chassis, body, engine, and gearbox numbers.
