Car to be at auction 3/18
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2018-03-03/cars/ref-123-1965-jaguar-e-type-s ...
Auction description:
Ascot Racecourse
March 3rd 2018
Lot 255 - 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixedhead Coupé (4.2 litre) by Sayer
Lot Number 255
Registration KWE 126D
Chassis Number 1E21059
Engine Number 7E6429-9
Odometer reading 1,800 miles
Estimate £145,000 - £170,000
Hand-picked for their quality, rarity and provenance, Sayer road and competition vehicles are restored or uprated with a philosophy captured in Jaguar's early slogan 'Grace, Pace and Space.' A limited amount of vehicles are rebuilt using the Sayer name by M C Wilkinsons and Son's, a second-generation family business. Classic Jaguar cars have played an important part in the M C Wilkinsons' history for many years and, as such, they are regarded as the UK's pre-eminent classic Jaguar specialists. Michael Wilkinson quotes "Our fully commissioned 'Sayer Cars' are built to maintain and preserve incredible motoring icons. Our philosophy is not to change, unless necessary, the unique nature of the cars made by Jaguar." The example on offer today is the very first Sayer Jaguar E-Type, as detailed by a plaque in the engine bay. With custom builds costing in excess of £200,000, our customer rightfully expected the very best with his project. After sourcing the perfect combination of an original UK supplied Series 1 iconic coupé combined with a 4.2 litre engine with matching numbers throughout, he handed the keys to M C Wilkinson with an open cheque book to create his perfect XKE.
In today's market, the donor car alone would have been valued at over £100,000, with matching gearbox, differential, engine and chassis all confirmed by the Jaguar Heritage certificate. Not satisfied however, our vendor commissioned the lengthy and rather expensive restoration which was completed to 'Sayer' standard by the summer of 2017. Naturally a full body restoration was completed which included delicate attention to detail and a re-jigged bulkhead. Alongside the now fabulous body and complementing the full nut and bolt philosophy were uprated bushes, 4 pot brake calipers, uprated dampers, radiator and fan with override switch. The engine was completely rebuilt and would put any XKE in its original guise to shame. Finally, lightened racing stainless steel wire wheels which have a wider track were fitted for enhanced road holding and performance. After delivery of his 'Sayer' specification E-Type, our vendor had the summer of 2017 to enjoy and 'run-in' this example. He tells us that it ran fabulously from the moment he first turned the key; however it is now even better with 1,800 miles covered which he also mentioned were in dry conditions only. M C Wilkinson themselves are rightfully proud of this car and happily discussed the lengths to which they went to ensure our vendor received the very best product on the market. Offered with a photographic timeline of the restoration and a history file including the details of the Sayer build and an MoT until February 2019, this has to be considered one of the very best Jaguar E-Types money can buy.
