Mechanics

There is an extensive history file with this E Type Jaguar, included is a Jaguar “Browns Lane” trace certificate that shows this car left the factory on 24th May 1968, it was despatched to “Henlys” Jaguar main dealer where it was registered to the first owner on 28th May 1968. early history details regretfully are not with the car but in approx 1978 the car was purchased by the 4th owner who was and still is one of the top sports photographers in the UK, photographs are in the history (black and white) of when he owned the car, the last owner and his father purchased the Jaguar from him on 7th June 1983, it is worth mentioning that they were Jaguar collectors and the car was mostly kept in there own collection being used for trips out and occasionally for TV and film work and we understand was used often in the television series “Minder” starring Dennis Waterman and George Cole, they began a program of updating and improving the car, much of the work we have listed above but nearly all of the work was carried out by Jaguar racing Specialist “AWB Motors” and many invoices for work come with the car, the last owners father also assigned the number plate GEF 586 to the car and although this is being removed from the car we hope to have the original Number WGU 32F assigned from the DVLA.

Sadly in 1992 the last owners father past away and the family reluctant to sell the car placed it storage, ownership was transferred to his son (the last owner) in August 1992, it has been in secure de-humidified storage until 2008, it has been occasionally started and run but in general terms the storage has been as good as you might find, this rare car has been preserved well and is credit to the last owner, there are many invoices and documents in the history file and we have photographed many of these that you can click n to enlarge and read, also included are some pictures of when the car was removed from storage earlier this year (enlargements).

The recorded mileage of this E Type Jaguar is 26,000, we have an old MOT certificate dated May 1979 and the mileage is recorded as 19,950. however we cannot verify the current mileage as genuine.

Note

The last owner is supplying a letter detailing the cars history while in their ownership and this will be supplied to the new owner of this car.

Interior

Please look at all the photographs of the interior (enlargements), we understand from the last owner that it was part re-trimmed during the mid 1980,s, the interior is overall in very good usable condition and in fairness we would describe it as good to very good, the seats although showing signs of age are undamaged, the carpets, door panels appear to have seen very little use, the dash board is correct and in good order, aside from the clock that is temperamental everything works correctly including the original radio and 8 track cassette player, the vinyl hood is in good undamaged condition, it has been down for many years and is a tight fit to put up but we are sure this will ease after a period of time, overall this a very good usable interior, not perfect but correct and much of it original.

Body & Paintwork

The last owner informed us that in 1984 his father had the body and paintwork refurbished, 2 invoices in the history file from "Maurdon Motors" of Wendover, Bucks detail the parts purchased for work that included new inner and outer sills, door skins, floor pans and wax oil, the work was completed in 1984 and the car was used occasionally until being placed in storage in 1992 covering only approx 2000 miles in that time.

The existing paintwork is now 25 years old and in fairness to everybody is showing it’s age, there is some micro blistering, minor dents and some scratches etc and you should expect this, we have inspected this Jaguar on a ramp in detail and can say the underside is solid, correct and mostly rust free and does not need any work, there are one or two minor rust marks to the body tub but they are minor, the finished shaping of one or two areas of the body could be improved upon and by today’s standards would only be considered average, the door and boot gaps are only fairly good, however the boot lid and doors are all excellent and almost rust free, the bonnet assembly is showing it’s age and again in fairness to everybody this section does have some rust bubbles showing and could be improved upon by replacement or rebuilding, however the body is in generally good order and in a very usable condition, it has been untouched for 24 years and much of that time in de-humidified storage.

For sale at Classic Chrome, £75,000
www.classic-chrome.co.uk/search-show-003994.html

First registered on 28th May 1968 - Matching numbers car, Chassis No: 1E2076 - Interesting history and once belonged to Mike Coles a very well known motoring photographer in the 1980's. Subsequently sold to a retired gent on the south coast who had the engine rebuilt + a new clutch and some panel replacements. Car then dry stored for 18 years from 1990 before being sold to the current owner in 2008.
Bare metal respray in 2009 by SAS in Lancashire including completely new bonnet, new braking system, new steering rack, polybushed Suspension, electronic ignition, uprated alternator, uprated heating fan and motor, electronic fuel pump and a new Mohair hood in 2013. History file contains tons of MOT's, receipts for engine and gearbox rebuild and body work repairs - all from jaguar specialists in the 80's and a full CD of photo's from the bare metal bodywork carried out in 2009.
Beautiful condition throughout and one of the best E Type's we have driven for some time.

According to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate this car Chassis No: 1E2076 left the Browns Lane factory on the 24th May 1968 and was delivered to Henlys in London and first registered to the first owner on 28th May 1968. It is a matching numbers car and was originally Sand with Red leather trim when produced.
Unfortunately little is known of its early history, but there is history in the file since it was purchased by a Michael Coles who is a very well known Sports (Tennis) photographer in July 1979 and there are a collection of black and white photographs of the car in the file that he had taken during his ownership. After 4 years and not having used it for almost 2 years he sold the car on 2nd June 1983 to the 5th owner a Mr G R Brooks of Northolt,Middlesex. At this time the mileage on the speedometer was showing 22,800 miles, but he advised Mr Brooks that the previous owner had replaced the speedometer and therefore its true mileage at this time was not known.
Very soon after purchase, Mr Brooks commissioned Jaguar racing specialist AWB Motors in Southall, Middlesex to carry out a full rebuild of the car which included many new panels being fitted plus a full Engine rebuild and complete repaint and there are invoices for all of this work. The mileage upon completion in April 1984 was 23,125. The car was used very occasionally by the owner over the next 6 years although maintained as required and MOT'd each year, but it was regularly used in the TV series Minder with Dennis Waterman and George Cole during the late 1980's.
On the last MOT in November 1989 it shows 24,429 miles - so only 1,304 miles were covered since its rebuild in early 1984. Sadly Mr Brooks passed away in 1992 and the family were very reluctant to sell the car, so it was transferred in to his son's name and placed in secure dehumidified storage for until 2008 when they decided to sell it.
but it was then dry stored for 16 years from 1990 until 2008 when it was sold to the current owner.
Due to discolouration and some bubbling, he had a bare metal respray carried out in 2009 by SAS in Lancashire including a completely new bonnet and the car was painted in Carmen Red. In addition, over the following years it has had a new braking system, new steering rack, Poly-bushed Suspension, electronic ignition, uprated alternator, uprated heating fan and motor, electronic fuel pump and a new Mohair hood in 2013. The history file contains lots of invoices and receipts for all the work carried out from the 1980's through to the present day and all from jaguar specialists. There is also a full CD of photo's of the bare metal repaint and work carried out in 2009.
This car is beautiful but not concours, but it has been set up to 'use' and not just look at and it is one of the best E Type's we have driven for some time.
It does require a new set of Chrome Wire wheels ideally as it still has its originals, but still very presentable.
The car was last serviced and MOT'd in April 2014 and the mileage on the car now is only 35,600 which means that it has only covered 12,800 miles since 1983 and 12,475 miles since the Engine rebuild.
