Ebay item 6/18/22

www.ebay.com/itm/195145446251

Current bid: $13,100 reserve not met 10 bids 9 days left in auction, seller proteng, 44k miles.

Seller's description:

This very special )(ICE (serial number 1E17862) is here on consignment from a local retiree (Gregory) who purchased the car when he was 28 years old — he just turned 72 last month. Gregory purchased 1E17862 from the original owner in 1978. Gregory is only the second owner of this Jaguar. It only had 21,612 miles on it at the time of his purchase.

As you can imagine, Gregory has many, many, many wonderful stories to tell about this Jag over the 44 years he's owned it. I'll only touch on a few here. To start, he tells the story of how he acquired 1E17862.

Oh wait...before I tell the story of how Gregory acquired 1E17862 let me tell you the name he gave it right after he took ownership; "The Mistress". You see like many married men Gregory had to get his wife's permission. It wasn't as easy for Gregory because this Jag was purchased brand new for a married man's mistress as a gift to her. The man got caught caught. Subsequently there was a divorce, however 1E17862 was not part of the divorce because it was titled in his mistress's name The cheating husband eventually married his mistress. Gregory's wife heard about the whole story. Therefore, Gregory's wife announced; "Gregory, if you buy it I want a promise that this Jaguar will be your ONLY mistress in our marriage!"

Apparently Gregory made the necessary pact with his wife. That wife, however, walked out on him in 1985...but not because he severed the pact.

Back to the story about how Gregory acquired 1E17862. Gregory's father was a divorce attorney in Cranston Rhode Island. The original owner (the mistress) of this Jaguar came to Gregory's father in March of 1978 because she was getting a divorce from the man that gifted her the car. The wife hatted the Jag because it was a gift from her husband before they got married. As part of the divorce decree it was stated that 1E17862 would be sold for a mere $500. The wife knew this was worse than stabbing a rusty dagger in her husband's heart.

The decree went on to state that the car could not be sold to anyone tied to the husband because then he'd just get it back somehow. So, with the permission of the original owner, her attorney called his son Gregory to see if he had $500 laying around and could come down to the office as soon as possible.

Luckily Gregory had $500 and jumped into his father's law office to become this Jaguar's next owner. That was of course after Gregory received quick approval from his wife.

Gregory knew very little about Jaguars, however he got aquatinted with fixing english cars; he had owned an MGA and other British sports cars.

1E17862 had some mechanical issues that had accumulated as it sat in storage for years prior to Gregory's acquisition. He sorted out all of the mechanical issues and started driving the car around on weekends.

As I mentioned earlier, Gregory's wife up and left him in 1985. It was an amicable divorce, hence 1E17862 remained in Gregory's possession.

1E17862 has sat in the same spot since January of 1991 (please see the recent photo of Gregory standing by 1E17862 in the rented garage). Through a string of mutual acquaintances Gregory called me back on the 8th of May wanting to know if I'd help him fmd a suitable buyer for 1E17862. I ran down to Venice to meet Gregory and "The Mistress" (1E17862). I told Gregory we'll have to flatbed the car to the local classic Jaguar mechanic and get it running.

After several weeks with our local XKE guru, 1E17862 is running so we can report that the engine is healthy, no noises, no smoke, no fluid drips.

Here's a report from the )(ICE mechanic:

- good compression - new coil was installed - starter functions properly - the carbs will need to re rebuilt, albeit they function to make the engine run - all of the old fuel was drained and the tank was treated - then new fuel put in - the slave cylinder will need to be replaced - the oil pan was removed to get all of the old oil out and to inspect what could be inspected before trying to start it - new oil was put in - the fuel pump will need to be replaced

We were not able to test drive the car because the slave cylinder is bad. The seller is not in a position to invest money further than getting the engine running. Also, the XKE guru who only works 9 hours a week is booked solid until October. He obliged spending the necessary time to be able to tell us the engine runs and is healthy.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
