Acquired from Eagle by the previous owner in 1998
Serviced by us every year since
Upgraded and improved to near GT specification
Available for the first time in two decades
One of just 863 right hand drive examples built
Original UK supplied E Type
Fully documented four owners from new

Bought new from Stratstone London in 1967 by a writer for the cult TV show Dr Who, and the creator of the infamous Daleks, this S1 4.2 roadster was surely the perfect transport for a successful young man about town. Even if his impressive credentials wouldn't get Terry Nation noticed, cruising the capital in this Opalescent Silver Grey E Type certainly would.

In 1971 the car passed to a second owner, as verified by the original and rare to find green log book, and an original purchase invoice shows that the bill was a lofty £1375. Obviously a treasured possession to this second owner, his custodianship lasted for 25 years and his devotion to the E Type is borne out through the countless maintenance invoices. Quite nicely, a good number of MoT certificates survive on file and trace the original mileage from new.

We acquired the car from a fleeting third owner and supplied it to the current owner in 1998, having fully bare metal repainted the car in the original Opalescent Silver Grey. Once down to a bare tub we were able to observe just how well preserved this then 60,000 miles car was, rectify the amazingly small amount of corrosion and take the opportunity to protect the metal from future corrosion.

From that point the car has been back to us every year for servicing, without fail, and every invoice is on file to show the Eagle maintenance and gradual upgrading along the way. The result is a beautifully preserved driver's car, running close to our GT spec, with a full engine rebuild performed just 8,000 miles ago when circa £45,000 was invested in Eagle rebuild and upgrade works.

As you can see from the pictures the body and paint condition is still incredibly sharp, and is certainly no worse for its wear. Astonishingly the engine bay still wears the original factory paint as applied when new, something we felt duty bound to preserve during our bare metal repaint, but it is by no means tired.

The interior has developed a beautiful lived in feel and would be great left as it is, with the original black leather seats being the most comfortable you will find and showing only the mildest creasing, with no tears or cracks. We have just serviced the car and it is ready to be driven away.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
