I used to own this car. I bought it in 1972 or 1973. The Reg No was KCY750E. It looked very good but after buying it I discovered someone had changed the clutch by hacking out the transmission tunnel. Combined with the rust in the sills I didn't feel it was very safe thereafter. I saw it at a classic car show at Kempton or Sandown Park about 15 years ago and it looked as though it had been restored very nicely. It is also pictured in a Jaguar book which I have somewhere.

Dear Paul, Your information is very interesting.Kcy 750E is still the registration number, and it must have been restored after your ownership.I know Fulbridge Restoration Company at Malden worked on the car around 1992 I bought the car from Eagle at the Sandown show in 1995, trading in a series 2 roadster E type Reg SAH 339H if I remember correctly. I am amember of the E TYPE CLUB, do you still run an E TYpe? Best wishes Geoff. Beardsley

My father bought KCY750E around 76 from a scrap yard and carried out a nut and bolt restoration with his friend Paul Cizieck (sorry sure not correct spelling) The car in the Steve Hicks book is the result of the work. I was a very young boy at the cloudy photo shoot! The car won Jaguar Drivers Concours 2 years on the trot I believe 1984 85. He sold it around 87 on the proviso he'd get first refusal if sold on. Not long after he sold it he was offered it back after the new owner wrapped it rou d a tree. Heartbroken after all the work he refused. My father and I would live to see it in good health. He's in his 78th year and not well these days.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
