The Jaguar E-type was built in four groups, Series I, Series I 1/2, Series II and Series III, over a time period that spanned from 1961 to 1974. Many enthusiasts agree that the Series I and I 1/2 (factory designated 1A), are the most aesthetically desirable E-types since the later series lost much of its lean and sleek appearance. Having said that, an early Series I roadster was not totally brilliant in terms of all of its mechanicals and ergonomics.

By Series I 1/2, a category into which the Roadster pictured here falls, many worthwhile improvements in drivability had occurred. The most important was the late Series I replacement of the original 3.8-liter engine with an upgraded 4.2-liter unit, along with a vastly improved synchromesh gearbox. Series I 1/2 cars also benefited from a substantially larger cockpit, an improved and somewhat more leak-proof convertible top, and a higher capacity cooling system to eliminate overheating in warm climates - all while retaining a free-breathing twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetor setup.

The matching numbers 1968 Jaguar Series I 1/2 Roadster offered here is in spectacular condition, having received a complete nut and bolt concours quality restoration. Freshly completed, the Jaguar scored a highly impressive 99.77 out of 100 at a JCNA event in 2005. It is finished in a pale primrose with a beige interior, and is equipped with a period correct AM/FM radio, chrome shift knob, walnut steering wheel, an upgraded black German Stayfast canvas soft top and top boot, as well as its original seat belts.
