This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 Roadster that was built on November 1, 1967 and was acquired by the seller in 1983. It underwent a refurbishment approximately 12 years ago that included a repaint, a brake overhaul, a replacement soft top, and a rebuild of the numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six. The car is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue over grey leather upholstery, and additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, a black soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, knock-off wire wheels, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and dual cooling fans. This Series 1.5 XKE is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

Series 1.5 XKEs featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I features such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights located above the split rear bumper. This example underwent a refurbishment around 12 years ago, including a repaint in its factory shade of Opalescent Silver Blue, a replacement black soft top, re-chromed bumpers and trim, and replacement of the door, hood, and trunk seals. A chrome trim piece at the base of the soft top is missing on the driver’s side.

Chrome 15” wire wheels wear knock-off centers and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The wheels and shocks are said to have been replaced during the refurbishment, and the four-wheel disc brake system was overhauled. The seller notes an area of rust in the trunk ahead of the spare tire.

The interior was refreshed with grey leather upholstery, matching door panels, and blue carpeting. Appointments include black floor mats with Jaguar logos, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an analog clock that has been modified to use 12-volt batteries. The Becker Europa AM/FM radio is noted to be inoperable, though replacement speakers have been installed. Noted flaws include stiff seat rails, a tear on the passenger-side threshold material, and a blemish around the top of the windshield frame. Spare seat track rollers are included in the sale.

The Smiths 160-mph speedometer and tachometer were rebuilt by Mo-Ma Manufacturing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gauges monitoring voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level are found on the center stack. The five-digit odometer was reset to zero during the refurbishment and now shows 732 miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six and dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors were reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment. Dual cooling fans were installed, and additional components replaced at that time are said to include the clutch, alternator, radiator, water pump, starter, fuel pump, and wiring harness. The fuel tank was also refurbished and a stainless steel exhaust system installed.

Engine-block stamping 7E14722-9 shown above matches the number noted on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate as well as on the chassis plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The floor pans are reported to have been replaced using parts sourced from Martin Robey Group, while further rust remediation was performed in preparation for the sale.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the vehicle’s original colors, powertrain numbers, and production date.
