Q: What is the cars history?A: The car was purchased new by an engineer in Pennsylvania in 1967. In 2006, Rick Munns purchased the E-Type from the engineers estate after his death. The engineer had the engine rebuilt prior to his death. In 2014, the E- Type was taken to Classic Showcase in Oceanside, California, and it was completely taken apart for a nut-and-bolt restoration. The interior was done at K&H Upholstery in Garden Grove, California, using the exact type and color. Rims were sourced new and the tires were sourced new to period-correct looking specification. There is an Auto Record notebook that came with the car showing every time it was gassed-up, oil-changed, etc. During the beginning of 2015, Mr. Flores was offered the nearly-completed restoration of the E-Type by Crevier Classic Cars in Costa Mesa, California, and the restoration was finished in mid-February. On February 27th, 2015, Mr. Flores purchased the car and proceded to import the Jaguar into Mexico. The car was sent on a flatbed from California to Mexico City. There, Mr. Flores kept it in his collection in a climate-controlled garage, with a battery tender plugged-in to preserve the vintage-looking battery. The E-Type was used only once every two months, or so, to go get breakfast at the local plaza four blocks away and back. Nevertheless, the car was started 10-15 minutes every Sunday to make sure all the parts worked and fluids ran. Even though the car was not driven significantly (presumably less than 200 km in all of Mr. Floress ownership), he always sent the car on a flatbed to have the oil and fluids changed on it every year. As a side-note, to get a vintage car registered under classic car license plates in Mexico (Placas de Auto Antiguo) one must prove that the car has over 50% of original or period-correct parts. The car went through the exam at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, maximum authority on the matter, and the experts certified the E-Type as a Grade A example. Said grade means the car has over 90% original or period-correct parts. The judgement can be found in Spanish among the various papers in the cars binder. In July of 2022, the car was sent to Theos Exotic Auto in Costa Mesa, California, aboard a covered flatbed to have some parts and all the fluids replaced. Q: Are photos and receipts available to substantiate a professional restoration?A: There are some photos in the Auto Record notebook, but beyond that, there are no actual tickets of the restoration at Classic Showcase in Oceanside, California as Mr. Flores purchased the car after it was restored. Q: What paint is on the car?A: Back in 1967, Jaguar used many eloquent names for the colors they used, such as Pearl Grey, Mist Grey, Carmen Red, Imperial Maroon, Claret, Old English White, Primrose Yellow, British Racing Green, Sherwood Green, Cotswold Blue, but the black color was only referred to as Black. Q: What has been replaced?A: The service on 12/9/80 noted in the Auto Record mentions new core plugs, a gearbox rebuild, synchro rings installed, new seals and gaskets, new timing chains, a complete engine rebuild, and cleaned headers. The Memoranda section of the Auto Record furthermore mentions that the 1976 reconstruction saw replaced both rocker panels, both bonnet fenders, lower bonnet panel, and all rubber seals. Also, a new stereo was installed alongside new rugs, vinyl, etc. in the interior. On the mechanical end of things, the Memoranda also mentions a brake overhaul, new shocks installation, and new battery. According to the last page of the Memoranda, another restoration was performed by Matt Means in 2010. Since Mr. Flores acquired the car, he had two rubber seals in the engine bay replaced. Specifically, the ones located where the bonnet closes and seals the mudguard from the engine compartment. They are two sort-of thin rubber rectangles sourced from England. One is located near the battery on the drivers side and the other one is in the opposing co-pilots side. They were replaced because they were starting to crack. Additionally, when the car was sent to Theos Exotic Auto in Costa Mesa, California, they replaced the steering rack assembly (as it was feeling too heavy) alongside the steering rod ends.
