Owner: Barry Myers

Now almost 70yrs old living in Essex UK, I am about tocomplete the nut / bolt rebuild of my E-type which has taken 10 yrs . My wife bought it for me for my 60th birthday . A huge number of parts missing ,and it has taken this long to compete. We are snow birds in Florida for the winter,so on our return in May 09 the final small amount of work will complete this major project., and i can at last drive my dream car.

This vehicle is now almost ready for the road, after a complete rebuild following 8 yr rebuild. Now only requires the fitting of seats and carpets and interior trim , all of which is to hand. Will then have new mohair hood to complete project. Unfortunately will not be in a position to complete before spring of 2008 as we will be residing in Florida for the next 6 months as snowbirds ,escaping the winter weather in the UK. will update in 2008 on completion of project , but looks wonderful in its new colour of jag dark blue . Cant wait to get it back on road even if petrol(gas) here is over $9.00 a gallon.!!! and due to rise this winter to $9.50 !!!

I sold this car some 3 years ago to a gentleman in Chelmsford Essex. It was I who fitted the 3.8 engine and Moss g/box during my 11 year restoration . I loved the car but the main enjoyment came from doing it . Sadly it was used very little as I was terrified of leaving it out of sight for any length of time as i was sure it would have disappeared by the time I returned .
Having worked in the Motor Trade all my life and owned and sold hundreds of cars ,it was the only one I longed for and finally owned . I now have a Mrk11 Daimler V8 250 .

- Fitted with 3.8-litre engine and Moss gearbox

- Jaguar Dark Blue with Burgundy interior and blue hood and tonneau

According to its accompanying JDHT Certificate, this Series One 4.2 E-Type Roadster was manufactured on 14 September 1966 and subsequently sold to its first owner, Thayer Bentley Hawkins of Youngstown, Ohio, via distributor Jaguar Cars, New York. Originally finished in Primrose with black interior, the last recorded US owners were also residents of Ohio. Falling into disuse and requiring restoration, the car was imported to the UK in December 1988. At some point, a 3.8-litre engine and Moss gearbox were installed and the car converted to RHD.

Around 1999, as a rolling shell, it was purchased as a 60th birthday gift by the previous owner's wife and given to her husband. He duly set about completing the restoration for which detailed notes of works carried out are recorded in a note book contained in the history file along with an album of photographs and a large amount of receipts for parts. According to an entry by him on website 'xkedata', the body restoration had already been completed by the importer. Due to spending their winters in the Florida sun, progress was slow and the project would not be completed until 2009 / 2010. Repainted in Jaguar Dark Blue and retrimmed in Burgundy leather with a blue mohair hood and tonneau, some mechanical works (including comprehensive overhauls of the engine and gearbox) were carried out by Swallow Engineering of Basildon. Finally, in August 2010, the car was driven on the road for the first time in over thirty years. Acquired by the vendor in 2013, it has been used sparingly and cossetted in a carpeted garage.

Whilst some cosmetic improvements could be made, FHJ 645D performed extremely well on a recent short test drive, as would be expected due to the minimal mileage covered since completion. A desirable Series One E-Type ready to be enjoyed, it is also offered with Swansea V5, MoT to June 2018, owner's handbook, service manual and spares catalogue.

NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2017
1966 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Manual
Lot No.: 335A
Registration: 24 FPO
Chassis Number: 1E13508
Engine Number: 7E10223-9
Number of cylinders: 6
CC: 4200
Year of Manufacture: 1966
RHD/LHD: Right Hand Drive
Estimate (£): 90,000 - 110,000

Originally built for the American market in left-hand drive this Series 1 4.2-litre Roadster was supplied to Jaguar Cars in New York in 1966 before finding its first owner in Ohio. It was much admired in the US of A for many years before returning to the UK a few years ago and was then subject to a complete restoration, with the engine rebuilt by Swallow Engineering, and accurately converted to right-hand drive at that time. The full details of the restoration and engine build are contained in two large A4 folders along with the Jaguar Heritage Certificate.

The car finally returned to the road in 2010 but, as far as its condition is concerned, it could have been ten minutes ago. Finished in a classic Jaguar Dark Blue with a fabulous Red interior this is a really impressive E-Type with even shut-lines and paintwork that looks so deep you feel you could dive into it. E-type engine bays tend to be well kept because access is comparatively easy, but this one looks like an operating theatre. Even the boot carpet looks brand spanking. The car looks like it has hardly been used since the restoration, but it must have been, as last month the ball joints, rear radius bushes, and some other mechanical items were renewed at a cost of £3,007.

Apart from its history file the Jaguar is accompanied by the owner's handbook, service manual, spares catalogue, jack, and wheel nut spanner. It will have a fresh MOT for the sale and its registration number (24 FPO) is fully transferable.

Series 1, 4.2, Dark Blue, Red interior, chrome wires, and well restored - most of the boxes ticked I think.

I have followed this car as i was the owner who re built it to running condition from a bare shell ( see previous history above )
After i sold the car it was subsequently sold by the purchaser at auction H&H Duxford ) for the sum of 70,000 pounds sterling .
It is reported above as being returned to another auction (Siverstone Auctions ) where apparently it did not sell but is available for 97,000 pounds . It states it has had some 3700 pounds spent on incidentals such as bushes etc . However it now appears
to have a 4.2 engine ! it did have the 3.8 I fitted and not an all synchro 4 speed but a 3 speed Moss box , what is going on ? It has also had a registration change which appears to be a personal plate of some kind .
I fear somethings wrotten in the state of denmark ! as the syaing goes .

Description

1966 Jaguar E Type Roadster Series 1

We have two ring binders containing the history, a photographic record of its restoration, lube sheet, handbook, details of its engine rebuild etc. We have not seen paperwork on this scale for many years, especially on a beautiful, modern classic.

Registered in the UK in July 2010, declared manufactured in 1966.

Beautiful indigo blue with red leather and blue mohair hood. Fitted mint chrome wires, wood-rim steering wheel, period radio etc.

3.8 engine and standard 4 speed gear box.

In our opinion the bonnet is as sound as you will see, looks near new. An outstanding opportunity!

Please note that descriptions are produced from information provided by the vendors. We highly recommend that you view in person any potential purchase and take time to inspect paperwork.
