This car is a shoddily-built replica and the Jag data plate is not there: what is there is a kitcar plate. It has NOTHING on or in it that is even remotely like a real XKE.

Will be interesting to see if the history of the real car can ever be discovered.

Car is a JPR Wildcat (Kit car) usually based on Ford running gear.

Adopted VIN likely the car is on ebay 5/8/18
www.ebay.com/itm/XK-Wildcat-Roadster/163037566764
Classified ad price: $115,000, seller gateway-classic-cars, 1.6k miles.

Sellers description:
The looks of a classic English sports car with the performance of American muscle! This Jaguar XKE replica features a completely custom chassis built to fit the stunning curves of the E-type body. The Body on this XKE though is all fiberglass and lightweight. That paired with the massive 5.7L V8 under the hood makes for a truly unique driving experience! The Jaguar XKE has a special place in automotive history and has become the dream car for many car enthusiasts. The perks of having a replica of your dream car is you can make it your own without dramatically affecting the resale value. This one specifically is meant to be a great mix between performance and drivability. The 5.7L V8 punches out plenty of power and has limitless possibilities when looking to modify it while still providing reliability. The 700R4 automatic transmission allows the driver to focus on the curvy roads ahead while also providing an overdrive gear for easy freeway cruising. The ride is smooth and, as you settle in to the bucket seats, you will gain confidence with each corner. The lightweight and low center of gravity provides excellent cornering ability and the power is always there with a simple touch of the throttle. This is a great car for someone who is looking for something to take out on the weekends and tear up the back roads or turn heads and keep everyone guessing at the local cars and coffee event. This vehicle is located in our Denver showroom.

So this is a "custom" chassis with a fiberglass body running an American engine and drivetrain. Why is this car even here? I mean, isn't XKEData meant to track, I don't know; XKE cars? If a company starts cranking out poorly made replicas do they really need to be here?

Don,

Yes, its wearing an E-type VIN and posing as an E-type, though we see its not. This is either what's left of the original car or an imposter, either case justifies its place here. You can consider it a warning if you find another E-type or piece of one with this VIN or ugly if this is what happened to the original car, which I imagine likely. Stealing a VIN without the appropriate paperwork is major fraud and will at a minimum get the car confiscated and likely crushed. In short its very illegal to use a VIN you don't have the paper trail to prove legitimately own. I will add its more important to have ownership paper trail than it is to have the car itself. Note that you can own a rust bucket easily buy a new Martin Robey body and replace the entire car, put your legally owned data plate on it and call it a day, its legal and done with some frequency.

That said the car is stil on ebay 1/31/19, same URL

Lowered classified ad price: $55,000. same seller.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
