This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series is a Series I roadster that was purchased by the seller in 1984 and subsequently placed in storage for several years. A mechanical recommissioning was initiated in 2012 that included overhauls of the powertrain and various mechanical systems, while a cosmetic refurbishment that included an exterior repaint and an interior refresh was carried out in 2019. Power is supplied by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, and the car is finished in Sand over red leather upholstery. Additional equipment includes a tan folding soft top, a Motorola radio, and 15″ wire wheels. This XKE roadster is offered with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.
The body is said to have been refinished in its factory color of Sand in 2015 by Sports Car Collision of Ferndale, Michigan. Features include a replacement folding soft top, split front and rear bumpers, glass headlight covers, and chrome windshield and door-top moldings.
Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels secured with two-eared knock-offs are mounted with 205/65 Dunlop SP sport tires said to have been sourced by Vintage Tyres in Hampshire,England. Braking is managed by four-wheel discs.
Interior finishes include red leather upholstery on the seats, door panels, and center console along with matching carpeting and a black dashboard. An period Motorola radio is linked to speakers fitted within the center stack, and lap belts are provided for both occupants.
A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel fronts a suite of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows just over 42k miles, though true mileage is unknown.
The twin-cam 4.2L inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and was reportedly rebuilt by Mazuro Motors of Warren, Michigan. The seller states that the carburetor floats were replaced in April 2021.
Engine-block stamping 7R 4998-9 matches the engine number listed on the under-hood identification plate and the JDHT certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date in August 1965 and lists original colors, equipment, engine number, and distribution through Jaguar Cars of New York.
