1965 Jaguar Series I E-Type Roadster
LOT 177 To be auctioned on Friday
ESTIMATE: $90,000 - $120,000
CHASSIS NO: 1E10474
The model shown here is a Series I E-Type roadster which sports the larger 4.2 liter engine, initially introduced in 1964. Benefiting from years of development, this particular series is extremely practical and provides drivers with a fast, reliable, and comfortable Grand Tourer – just as William Lyons intended. This E-type has only had two owners with the first being a Ford engineer and collector who pampered the E-Type throughout his 14 years of ownership. The current owner is a former North American Jaguar Club Concours chairman and National Concours Champion.
The current owner commissioned a very exhaustive and correct nut-and-bolt rotisserie style restoration to be performed on the already very straight car without concern for cost, as the E-Type received only the most professional work, and NOS parts when available. The entire drive train – engine, clutch, transmission and rear end were entirely rebuilt with the mechanicals being returned to factory specifications, as were all other auxiliary systems including suspension, cooling system, exhaust, electrical systems and brakes. The interior has been restored to new with factory correct tan Connolly hides used and a Haartz cloth canvas top. The original in dash radio has been removed and replaced with a Pioneer CD player; however, the original radio will be included in the sale of the car. The weather stripping and body gaskets are all new. Stripped to bare metal, the body was refinished with six coats of PPG Acrylic urethane in the factory correct red hand rubbed with six coats of clear over top.
In genuinely better-than-new condition, this car is reported to only have traveled 30,105 original miles. This car offers its next owner the unique opportunity to acquire an essentially brand new E-Type from the most desirable model year. Should the next owner prefer, the installation of the original radio will return the car to its original specifications and will be perfectly suited for concours competition.
