Car nearing completion of restoration (sept 2011)

I have owned the car since September 1976 and bought it from a garage in Kent, England for £1,600. The car was Carmen Red when I bought it but I discovered later that it was originally Opalescent Silver Grey. It seems the car was damaged in an accident and the colour changed when it was repaired.

I used the car up to 1984, but then it was stored while I worked overseas. During this time it was stolen, but eventually located and recovered. The current restoration work started in 2005 and has been proceeding slowly - the end is now in sight.

    Robert,
Great story! Glad you got your car back and restoration is under way. I'd had mine for 33 years, its part of the family.

We are now into year 8 of the restoration and it is really nearing completion. The retrim is almost done and there are a few more chrome items to fit. Next step will be MOT and road testing. (March 2013)

Sold by E Type UK of Hadlow in July 2019. Abbreviated seller's description below.
    www.etypeuk.com/showroom/series-1/jaguar-e-type-series-1-42-rhd-ots-ri/

A matching numbers and original right hand drive example, built on 28th November 1964, the 28th 4.2 litre series 1 roadster in RHD. benefiting from 40 years cherished ownership by the current owner, this E Type is an opportunity to own an original and highly drivable car. Delivered to Henlys London, it was first registered in February 1965, as confirmed by a copy of the original log book.

The roadster came into current ownership in October 1976 and spanned 4 decades, mostly residing in Camden, North London. It was regularly used, often taking trips to Scotland. 1981 started several years of travel around the Netherlands based at the owners second home in Rotterdam, it the moved to Voorburg and then to The Hague. In 1984 the car returned to the UK and went into storage until 2004.

A local Nottingham classic car specialist then started a full nut and bolt restoration. Work included replacing floors, scuttle and rear bulkhead. By 2006 all bodywork was complete and the car finished in primer. The car then went back into storage until 2009 when restoration continued and over the next two years the independent rear suspension and engine were rebuilt, all running components reassembled, interior retrimmed and car repainted.

Restoration was complete in 2013 with car finished in Red with a Beige interior and matching soft top. The E Type is presented in great running and visual condition. It has great all round panel gaps and is a highly durable classic. It is accompanied by an extensive history file and Jaguar Heritage certificate.
