ON EBAY 03/08, DEALER WRITES: This matching numbers Jaguar is a fabulous example previously restored by Hyannis Restoration years ago that has been freshened up by Classic Showcase. It is an original Texas car accompanied by paperwork and receipts from the restoration. The car features a luggage rack, two mirrors, an auxiliary fan, and a period AM/FM 8-Track in dash. It has received a complete cosmetic restoration by Classic Showcase, including some paint, color, sand, and buff work. The engine and its head have been cleaned, painted and refinished along with the heater box, sheet metal, and more. This car features a new header tank, exhaust manifolds, valve covers, and dash pots on the carburetors that have been wet sanded and polished. New hoses, hardware, seals, and gaskets were installed as needed. Classic Showcase has also restored the instruments, tuned-up the engine, installed new front brake lines, and new rubber. This E-Type has received a full detail, inside and out, as well as a full vehicle service, including that all fluids have been changed. It drives very well, and it is an excellent addition to any collection.

The new E-type was, if anything, an even greater technical breakthrough than the XK. Dispensing entirely with the pre-war concept of a separate body bolted to a rolling chassis, the E-Type broke new ground with a monocoque body tub attached to a complex tubular framework holding the engine and bonnet. The new car’s performance was as breathtaking as its appearance, with the magic 150 miles per hour barrier finally broken by a standard production sports car. After producing some 15,000 3.8-liter models, Jaguar released the larger 4.2 version of the Series I at the end of 1964 with a new, fully-synchronized, four-speed manual gearbox.

To many, this car was everything the E-Type should have been to start with. Gone was the antediluvian pre-war Moss transmission, now replaced with a modern, quiet and efficient all-synchromesh unit. Engine performance was increased, with the greater torque from the 4.2-liters giving improved acceleration, smoothness and gas consumption. Other mechanical changes included greatly improved braking and cooling systems. The interior was also much improved with the attractive-looking but backbreaking 3.8 seats replaced with far more comfortable ones with deep upholstery and tilting backs. Finally, the fitting of an alternator in place of the ancient dynamo finally allowed the electrical system to keep up with its demands.

A matching-numbers example, the E-Type on offer was delivered new to Midland, Texas, as indicated by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate of Authenticity. It was previously restored by Hyannis Restoration and more recently received a cosmetic restoration at Classic Showcase. The car has been kept very original and authentic throughout. In fact, the aforementioned certificate further confirms that the car was originally finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with a dark blue top and interior, as it is presented today.

The cosmetic restoration services included paint, color sanding, and buffing work, which brought the car to a virtually show quality, yet very drivable, level. The engine and its head have been serviced, adjusted, cleaned, and painted the proper colors, while the radiator was serviced and installed, and a new header tank and exhaust manifolds were also installed. The aluminum work, valve covers, and dash pots on the carburetors were polished and refinished as was the heater box, sheet metal, and other metal components. Additionally, Classic Showcase restored the steering wheel and instruments, tuned-up the engine, installed new front brake lines, rubber, hoses, hardware, seals, and gaskets and changed all fluids. Finally, the car received a full detail both inside and out as well as a full vehicle service. The car also features a luggage rack, two door-mounted mirrors, original boot cover, an auxiliary fan, and a working period in-dash AM/FM/8-Track unit.

An excellent and tremendously enjoyable car, the handling and tracking of this XKE are reportedly superb at high speeds. It is of course also a highly collectable example of the most desirable E-Type series, beautifully presented in its spectacular and original color of Opalescent Silver Blue, period correct in every respect, and supported by Heritage Trust documentation to complement its outstanding finish.

This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was refurbished under prior ownership and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with a blue soft top and boot cover, and it is equipped with a limited-slip differential, chrome 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, a louvered clamshell hood, and a rear luggage rack. The bucket seats are trimmed in blue leather and are joined by a retro-look radio, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater. This XKE Series I roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with a tool roll, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a California title.

The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue, and additional equipment includes a blue soft top and boot cover, a louvered clamshell hood, a rear luggage rack, wraparound chrome bumpers, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin XA4 tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The bucket seats are upholstered in blue leather and are joined by color-coordinated door panels. Interior appointments include black vinyl dashboard trim, a padded armrest, lap belts, a retro-look radio, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 21k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque.

The cylinder head stamp is shown above.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
